I've been trying to run AI Flight Planner after downloading 1.5 from Avsim. But when I click the exe, I get "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application." Any clues on how to uphandle the unhandlable would be much appreciated...

tailgunner, you haven't given me much to work with. What was the nature of the exception? Also, there should have been a "details" link in the exception message which would have revealed the state of the machine at the time of the crash.
In any event, this would seem to be a problem local to your machine. (The number of downloads of AIFP 1.5 is approaching 8000; to my recollection, your's is the first such report.)
AIFP checks that each file it requires exists before attempting to use it. If one is missing, it is treated as a handled exception. So, that leaves a possible corrupted file or something external - like a faulty NET.Framework 2 .
You note that you're using Version 1.5. There have been several minor releases since that general release (see the top post in this forum). I suggest you download 1.56, released only last weekend, and try again. If that doesn't work, try repairing/re-installing NET.Framework 2.
Irrespective of the result, please send me the nature/details of the exception messaqe.

Don,
I received a similar message the first time I tried to create a new flight plan. After I loaded the aircraft list, I haven't received the error again.

Thanks, Bob.
From the information provided, I infer that tailgunner experiences the problem immediately upon attempting to execute AIFP. That would be somewhat different from the situation you described.
Are you still getting the exception or was it a one-time occurrence. I have fixed a couple of unhandled exception errors in the recent releases, but I don't recall that any of them were related to the absence of an aircraft List.

Nope. After I scanned for aircraft, I haven't had a problem.

Then it likely will forever remain a myustery. But, I will take a look at the code in that area. Do you recall at what stage of the "create new flight plan" sequence the error occured (e.g., upon click the create button, when you tried to save a leg or when yo tried to save the newly-created flight plan bto the flight Plan List.)? And what version of AIFP were you using at the time, please?

Don, the error occured upon click the create button. I'm using the latest version: 1.5.6.

Bob, when I click on the "Start New FP" button immediately upon loading AIFP, I get the (intended) error message "There are no aircraft in the Aiircraft List".
Please detail the steps you take to force the exception. And, by the way, what is the nature of the exception?

That's all I need. AI Flight Planner has not been installed properly. It looks like you simply unzipped the archive into a system temporary folder.
If you set up a separate folder for AI Flight Planner and copy the files from the archive into it (per the installation instructions), all should be well.
