View Full Version : Make airport from nothing?
Hello
First. I'm new to this. Where i want to make my airport the runway will be different in altitude from end to end. In one end the altitude is about 160meters, and in the other end it is around 180meters. How do i "tilt" the runway? And how do i reshape the ground where i want the airport to be? It is going to be "built" in a forest/hill. By the way, how do i remove the trees that i dont want to have on the airport? What cind of program is the best to use to do what i want?
Lots of questions, but i am pretty "green" on this!

Hi,
Which version of FS? Also you need to be aware that officially FS only supports flat airports, so AI will not work on a sloped runway like this.
It's FSX. Do that mean that it is NOT possible to build this airport?
How can i flatten out the ground then?
It is possible to have a sloped runway in FS X (and in other versions of MSFS), but to tell you honestly, building such an airport is not really a task for a noob.
Maybe a bit simpler airport for the start, so you'll have at least some personal satisfaction looking at your results that work, instead of investing hundreds of hours into something you don't understand at the moment and giving up at the end.
Nothing in scenery design is really simple, but still, nothing is so complicated that's impossible to comprehend, but there are simply too many subjects you'll need to know and too many different programs you'll need to learn to handle, to expect your first project in scenery design area can be a sloped runway airport, is simply asking too much of yourself. You'll need to do a lot of reading, this forums are the right place to start and there are lot's of members here that know what they are talking about.
But you will really need to start at the start and not at the finish line.
Hmm, ok.
What is the best program to use to flatten the surface/mesh?

If you want to build an airport for FSX there are several tools.
AFX from Flight1. This is payware and includes tools to design an airport. Does not need the FSX SDK but also cannot flatten and exclude
FSX Planner is freeware. Needs to FSX SDK and does not have tools to flatten and exclude
ADE, also freeware. Requires the FSX SDK and does have tools to flatten and exclude.
In the case of AFX and FSX Planner you can use either SBuilderX or FSX KML to create your flatten/exclusions. I am not sure if they both need the FSX SDK but I think they might. Both SbuilderX and FSX KML are freeware
Therefore you a range of choices in tools that might suit your style and situation.
I use ADE.

You need to create a vector polygon with attribute "Exclude General"/"Utilities".

Add a tower frequency using "Lists/Comms/Add".
Why is the "generic buildings" that i place on my airport gone when i open the "ADE". The buildings is visible in FSX, but when i open the airport in ADE, its not visible. I want to move the buildings alittle bit, but how can i do that when i cant see them in ADE?

Have you got the setting for Scenery Complexity on the menu bar set to Extremely Dense?
Have you got View > Display Only Object Ticked?
The setting for Scenery Complexity was set to wery_sparce. :(
Thanx :o

I try to do it but i get stuck after i have made all the dots, what do i do then?
Double-click to end the addition of the lights.
In FSX, position the user aircraft on the apron and set the time to "Dusk" or "Night" and you should see the blue lights.

That was BIG help. Thanx.

I guess we missed that one :)
You need AI flight plans to get AI aircraft at your airport
