View Full Version : Read scenery data
Hi,
is there a way to read the scenery data of the scenery FS2004 is currently showing? Or a way to get the BGLs currently in use?
Regards
Peter

It is a long time since I looked but maybe you can find it via FSUIPC?
I did not find anything relating to the scenery in FSUIPC.

Sorry but I do not have the FSUIPC SDK with me and I am away from home
Hi Peter,
I don't think I have ever heard of a tool that will show you the files that are currently used by FS. What do you need them for?

Hi!
The LWMViewer shows which bgl-files are loaded, but don't know how this is done.

I think LWMViewer does the job imperically, that is to say, knowing what co-ordinates FS it at, it simply shows the relavent AP, FL AB etc. files that pertain to those co-ordinates. If you re-name one of the default files, say to AB94813a.bgl, LWMViewer will no longer display it.

Hi,
That's right. It builds its own scenery database and loads every file that covers the displayed area. It's got no idea what FS is using. It's been a while since I looked - I can't remember if it goes by filename or by the min/max coordinates in the file header.
Cheers,
Jim
IntelliScene from Vistamare seems to do exactly what I want. But I don't know how it can access the BGL.
Does it read out the memory where FS has loaded the BGL?
Hi,
I am not sure IntelliScene does actually know which BGL files you are reading. But you would have to contact the authors, I don't know of anybody on the forum who has deep knowledge of that tool.
