• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    Normal map creation

Don't get me wrong. Since you say that in FSX, normal mapping and bump are the same, and since you have been in contact with ACES, maybe you could give men an answer to the following?: [1] FSX use normal maps for bumpmap rendering. [2] FSX use normal maps for normalmap rendering. [3] FSX...

    Normal map creation

Use of normal maps in run-time is a very spesific procedure. Does the FSX render do normal maps, or is it a bump map shader? I've seen no evidence of normal mapped objects in FSX. The screengrab with the rendered house in the tutorial looks like a basic bump shader, and not a normal map shader.

    Normal map creation

Sorry for being dim, but does anything here actually suggest that it's possible to use normal mapping in FSX?

    Normal map creation

"ACES are the ones who chose to misuse the term. ACES chose to call their implementation of "normal map" a "bump map."" I really don't understand. Does FSX support normal maps? I've never seen any signs of normal mapping in FSX. Bump mapping, it does support though.

    Photoscenery - layering...

Thank you for your help. There was just a basic problem with the scenery database in FSX that resaultet in the scenery not showing up. Conclusion: Layering is possible, the alphabetical order of the .bgl's define the order of the layering.

    Photoscenery - layering...

Hmm, do they have to be compiled in the same run to get them to work together?

    Normal map creation

"For reasons of their own, ACES chose to use the term "Bump Map" instead of "Normal Map." Strictly in regards to FSX's lexicon, "normal map" and "bump map" are synonyms." Normal maps are NOT the same as bump maps. See the wiki entry for referances...

    FSX Help with photo shoreline

Shorelines I have the same problem, the mesh does not match the photoscenery shoreline perfectly. Creating a hydropoly underneith in SBuilder is not an option, as it cuts into the mesh, creating ugly artifacts in the landscape. One solution could be to draw the ocean for the shorelines from...

    Photoscenery - layering...

I have calibrated 3 huge texture maps - that I want to use as ground textures, but since the calibration is not totally perfect, I would like to have the images overlap slightly in forest areas or other places where it is not noticable. Is it possible to layer photorealistic ground...

Using a 3rd party program to place objects...

Yes, thats why I bake all my textures into large sheets, that are only imported into 3dsmax when I'm finished. Your answer is not an answer to my question, if there is a way to get objects automatically to rest on ground?

Using a 3rd party program to place objects...

Hello, Since FSX is on it's way out. I would like to use as little as possible of the SDK tools for making my scenery. Is there a possiblility to place objects in my favorite 3dprogram on a plane, import the object into FSX and automatically get the meshes to sleep on ground level...
