• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hey,

now that AFLT (using 1.1.) works perfectly, I am interested if there is posible to make PAPI lights visible a bit earlier on the final approach?

Thank you again for this great tool and for helping me!

Kind regards

You can make the lights brighter by adding more bulbs but the sim controls the cutoff range. Adding more bulbs won't affect the range.

Don,
How would I add more bulbs when the number of lights box is greyed out (non-selectable) when I choose to make the PAPI light?
If the sim controls the cutoff range why does the default papi show up at a greater range than the custom made one?

Thanks for a great program,
Alan

Thanks Don for answering. They appear really quite late on the final, much later then in real life, so I would like to change the range, while brightness is ok for my taste. Thank you!

so I would like to change the range,
Klemen, as I said yesterday, the range is controlled by the sim and I can do nothing about it. If you are unhappy with the AFLT PAPIs, then you'll have to revert to the stock versions (without the 3D models).

Hey Don, as Alan wrote above as well, I am wondering why FS original PAPI lights have greater visibility then yours if both are controlled by the sim. Change is that your are cutoff from aprox. 1NM away while in FS they slowly fade out. Not that I am unhappy I am just wondering... unless we are not welcome to report such questions =(

I hadn't noticed Alan's post before. Thanks for pointing it out. The answer is simple. Stock PAPIs don't use BGL_LIGHTs. Scenery has no access to the lights used by the stock airports (which appear to be related to SCASM lights).

As I have said on numerous occasions, BGL_LIGHTs (with all their limitations) are the only currently available (to scenery BGLs) technology that allows the control necessary to offer all the light types and capabilities that AFLT does.

Thank you, now fully understand! I have now used FS9 bgl and they fade out nicely though still a bit earlier but overall still a nice addon, thank you, I will post some photos of scenery when finished!

Keep up the great work!

Klemen, to what textures are you referring? All the textures supplied with AFLT already have mipmaps.

If you are using FSX and are referring to halo.bmp or to textures in the Effects folder, be aware that any changes you make to them will affect every usage, not just AFLT PAPIs.
