• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

It is dangerous. If drone is sucked in the turbine, it would be disaster.

Certainly would be for the drone... but not so good for canopies or windshields.

and engines.. It could take out an engine if it hits just right. Birds do it often.

This is a really stupid use of a hobby drone. If it keeps up, they'll get banned outright.

I nearly impulse-bought one of these things a couple months back but since then I've seen some of the things these idiots are doing with them and the resulting public perception of them and I sorta lost interest. Some moron brought one home having never flown one before and tried to fly it from his umpteenth story apartment balcony over New York or something. I saw the vid, he was crashing it into skyscrapers and bouncing it off windows, etc. No wonder folks hate 'em.

On the other hand check out this video a responsible pilot was able to make with one:

Here's another made by Howard Rockliffe who's using one professionally:

I agree with you. Like a very sharp knife, it is very useful and dangerous at the same time, depends on the user.

EXACTLY!

I will admit that during my career in US Naval Intelligence I flew (not personally but ordered missions) UAVs over airfields…"adversary airfields" that is. That said, we NEVER took the chances that the gentleman at KLIA did with resect to safety of flight. As many of you probably know, many of the worlds aerodromes are "dual use"–civilian commercial airports and military air bases that share the runways. (Honolulu International is one of the most famous - flights often are lined up behind a couple of F-15s and one gets great views of their takeoff.) I can neither confirm nor deny anything…I leave it to your conjecture whether or not UAVs are/were ever used over dual use airfields.

That said, no "cool" photo or even intelligence imagery is worth the lives of civilians in a commercial airliner. We military professionals plan missions with safety of flight a paramount consideration. I can see from Mr. Rockliffe's excellent videos (posted by JRobinson - thanks for that) that some civilians practice the same professionalism and responsible airmanship. I applaud them while I condemn grossly irresponsible private drone use like that seen above. It's amateur and irresponsible and it is going to get people killed.
