FYI:
In Sketchup 2016 64-bit on Windows-7 Professional 64-bit with 8 GB system RAM
...I am experiencing
slow (compared to Sketchup-8 32-bit):
* automatic file saving of "
Autosave_*.SKB" files
* manual file saving of "
BAK_*.SKP" files
* manual saving of any
[main project file name].SKP files
* automatic file saving / updating of "
Make Unique Texture" files (with either the default function
or Aerilius'
Make Unique Texture++ plugin)
* switching between Tool icon modes
...when I have used
large textures and have
not yet made them into unique textures cropped to the face they are (re-)mapped to with UVWs

The latter situation can result in a "
Bugsplat" crash of Sketchup if one does
not pause for a few seconds after a "
Make Unique Texture" file creation
Also, if I forget to
close the "
Add Photo Texture" window (which maps Street View textures onto a selected face), both Sketchup 2016 64-bit and Sketchup-8 32-bit may go into 30-to-60-minute looping system freeze before allowing access to even the Windows task manager.
In such cases, after allowing the process to loop itself to a stop and gaining eventual access to the task manager,
and after having had to forcibly re-boot Windows once, I have not "
yet" lost a project file; not good risks to take obviously.
However, I'm concerned about a 3GB 32-bit or 4GB 64-bit Sketchup task session "
lockup" from failure to close a Sketchup 'child process' window.
Thus, in addition to being extra careful to always immediately close the "
Add Photo Texture" window after use, I meticulously '
Make Unique Texure' for as many faces as I can, and then
purge the un-used originals.
The other benefit from doing this is that Sketchup reportedly does subsequently utilize actual mapped UVWs for the "Unique" textures, which makes the output file more compatible when exported for processing in other 3D modeling applications.
BTW: These multiple new unique textures with mapped UVWs can then be consolidated by MCX onto a lesser total number of texture sheets.
