• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v6 Can ADE Be Updated to Work With P3Dv6?

Hi Guys If necessary, I can share changes I identified in P3Dv6 BGL structure (mainly taxisign record and approach lights record) as well as new GUIDs used for ILS associated objects and some other navaids

Compute Latitude and Longitude 1 nm ahead (given heading)

Tom provided links referring to great circle calculations that should be enough precise for small distances If a more precise result is required (especially for longer distances), calculation based on the earth ellipsoid model (WGS84) would be more appropriate A script from Chris Veness is...

    Reading BGL files

Hi Chris, 0xAA is the AirportSummary section identifier (P3DV5 and V6 only) - Was 0x2C in previous versions as well as in FSX Hervé

    P3Dv6 stock scenery objects GUID

Hi Lemon, I don't think Jon adds P3DV6 compatibility in its latest Bgl2Xml version. Indeed, running it on P3DV6 APX files does not extract existing taxiway sign records Considering Jon retired, I don't think he will continue updating ADE and/or Bgl2Xml Current P3DV5 compatible ADE version...

    P3Dv6 stock scenery objects GUID

Hi Lemon, Airport taxiway signs are still stored in the SCENERYOBJECT section of the BGL file (Id 0x25). However, inside it, taxiway sign records have a different Id (0x14) instead of 0x13 for P3DV5 version Structure is also a bit different, as follows (identified changes are in bold...

    P3Dv6 stock scenery objects GUID

Hi all, Following a preliminary analysis, it seems many stock scenery objects GUID have changed in P3Dv6 as compared to previous P3D versions and FSX. It is notably the case for ILS associated objects and probably some others. I couldn't find any precise information in the P3DV6 SDK regarding...

    Time to Retire

Jon, we will miss you a lot. Thank you for helping us so often in our personal projects, sharing your in-depth knowledge, and supporting seamlessly those who use your applications for so long. Now relax and take some good time! Hervé

P3D v5 Mathematical imbecile desperately needs some help, please

Martin, I can provide you either C++ sources for performing such calculations or alternatively a DLL exporting such functions if you can link it to your vb.net program. Send me a PM if it can facilitate your work Hervé

Updated navaids not showing changed in ADE

Hi Dale, As far as I know, ADE use its internal database of default stock navaids and will display them whatever the content of the stock BGL file. This is true for enroute navaids (those included in NVX files) I don't think ADE looks at when launching any session but also for terminal NDBs...

    FS2004 2 Digits Runway Numbers

As far as I know this option (as well as Alt threshold, Alt fixed distance, alt touchdown, alt precision and no threshold end arrow) are not available (inactive) in FS9 files

MSFS Fixing MSFS LDA information in APX data files

The links Jim is talking about are the coded ICAO Id of primary and secondary ILSs (DWORD) that are defined in the fixed part of runway subrecord at offsets 0xC and 0x10 respectively. Removing these links by setting values to 0 (that is no associated ILS) or coding there a non existent ILS...

MSFS Fixing MSFS LDA information in APX data files

Ok, so it appears MSFS XML ILS coding is somehow different from previous sim versions. Thanks for the insight. Now, it will be worth analyzing how it is internally coded at BGL level, especially as regards course (mag or recalculated true) and this "forced alignment" integer that has been mentioned

MSFS Fixing MSFS LDA information in APX data files

Interesting..I didn't know ILS code could be defined outside runway element and didn't succeed compiling without errors <Ils></Ils> data outside of it If it is the case, I really don't know how the compiler could properly define some parts of the ILS and runway records. However the tests I...

MSFS Fixing MSFS LDA information in APX data files

ILS XML element is defined inside airport runway element so there is a direct link between any defined ILS and its airport runway assignment At compilation time, even if ILS data are stored in a different section than airport runway data, localizer subrecord contains information on associated...

MSFS Exclude or deactivate a single ILS LOC?

True ILS courses are not always available from AIP data. If ILS is aligned with Rwy, I'll suggest you set it to rwy true course For offset ILSs, true courses are usually published (but you may have to recalculate them if only mag courses are available). If not, the easiest is to recalculate them...

MSFS Exclude or deactivate a single ILS LOC?

EDHK ILS 08 is an offset ILS so it is normal loc antenna is not positionned on rwy axe. Correct coordinates for this LOC from German AIP are lat=54.379042 lon=10.149433 and true ILS course has to be set to 084.4° that is a 2° offset from rwy axe (82.4°) I suggest, for maximum realism, you use...

    ADE ILS DME Location

For information, most US ILS associated DME are colocated or nearly colocated with localizer antenna (so this option was not so irrelevant) while most European ILS DME are GS colocated, so there is no rule at all! The only rule is: put it where it is according to AIP ;-). Also take into account...

P3D v5 Descent profile via airfile

    >>I don't see how the air file would have anything to do with a descent profile, to be honest << Indeed some parameters don't (depending on intended profile) but many others (TAS at different descent levels, engine thrust data, fuel consumption on descent, to name a few) require additional...

FS2004 How to modify the fuel flow on idle ?

In addition to Roy answer, know there is a minimum fuel consumption and very often you will get it at idle power. Normally sim calculates fuel consumption (PPH) as TSFC*engine net thrust However if PPH calculated this way is below a minimum value, this minimum value is always observed whatever...
