• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Turboprop engine Nh and Np gauges

I may be wrong but Nh refers to the high pressure gas generator stage which would be the equivalent to N2. Np actually refers to prop speed which would not be anything having to do with the turbine portion of the engine. All of this varies of course depending on which specific turboprop...

    FSX Placing Autogen with Annotator

Thanks, Jim, I will definitely give this a try! I knew there had to be some little trick to it since I have seen very precisely placed autogen in other scenery.

    FSX Placing Autogen with Annotator

That is a fantastic idea for the telephone poles near my airport! Getting the changing seasons is my big problem for sure. Since the airport is in the northern U.S. it goes through a hard winter so I need snow or it looks a bit funny! I will keep experimenting though. Does anyone have any...

    FSX Placing Autogen with Annotator

My fear of using objects as opposed to autogen is that I would lose seasonal variation. If I knew I could place them as objects in something like ADEX and maintain seasonal variation I would definitely do that! So far I haven't had any luck with that, however.

    FSX Placing Autogen with Annotator

I have been working with the autogen on my first scenery project and I am very happy with the progress but I am getting a little hung up in one aspect. I am wondering what the best way to 'precisely' place trees would be. The problem is a few areas where there is a thinner line of trees. I...

    FSX vs FS9?

I think in formatted text you would have something like %(condition)%{if}\{clr1}your text with the colors having been defined with <colorvalue> entries. This is kind of off the top of my head so I am sure that if I am wrong anywhere, Bill can correct it.

    FSX vs FS9?

Well if it helps in the trouble shooting- I am getting my problem with a script that doesn't use macros anywhere in the element. I also tried a few different ways of 'wording' the condition including reversing it as in instead of 'if' I made 0 == as well as != just to see if it was something...

    FSX vs FS9?

I am actually getting the same thing on one of my projects. I am using a L:var bool and the 'if' color doesn't work but the 'els' color does. If I figure it out, I will let you know but you are not the only one with this problem for what that is worth :o

Terrain Display trouble using the xml gps map

Sounds about the same as mine... Its about one frame worth of the default colors as the map reloads. It goes blank and then I get the default colors for a moment before the terrain warning colors appear. It is unsightly but not a show stopper. If there was an easy work around I would do it...

    FS2004 Strings that move?

!!! I can't make this work. I am using FSX schema and was attempting to use a top and left script on the element but even using shifts the N just sits there... this gauge has caused me more head aches than any other. Edit: this has to be the way sin and cos are used because anytime I add them...

    FS2004 Strings that move?

I will have to give this a try! Thanks much!

    FS2004 Strings that move?

Interesting. I actually do prefer FS9 xml since it is so much cleaner and I have so much more experience with it... I don't really have to think twice when looking at it. I just started a new FSX project but I think I may restart it in FS9 schema now since it was going to involve moving text...

    FS2004 Semi-transparent rectangle

Ah, yeah... and ND with a connect FMC is definitely a whole other realm. Great idea though. I often find myself trying to trick FS (and I often find FS wins!):D

    FS2004 Semi-transparent rectangle

I guess the hard way to make it work would be to rebuild the gauge and include your dimming function. The benefit of course would be that you could customize it further to your liking. The downside is all the extra work. The inop sticker solves the problem too!

    FS2004 Semi-transparent rectangle

All I know is that FS doesn't do well with 'stacking' gauges on one another when dynamic elements are involved. FS tends to display the last thing that moved or changed on top and obscures what is behind it, or sometimes you get strange flickering. I am sure someone knows more about what is...

    FS2004 Strings that move?

I am not sure this is possible and is exactly why my current project is in FSX schema. I much prefer FS9 schema but every time I have ever tried this, I have no luck. That being said, I certainly don't know all the tricks so someone may have some sort of work around.

    Terrain shadowing problem

There is a custom draw 'IceColor' that I think may default to a pinkish color so if you are somewhere that there may be ice to display it could be your problem. I don't know much about the where the ice is found so I am not sure what an appropriate color would be but my guess would be to make...

Terrain Display trouble using the xml gps map

Wow, a huge oversight on my part! I never even noticed you were using DetailLayerTerrain as opposed to just LayerTerrain. Back to the testing! *UPDATE #2* It now works as intended! Thanks again for the tips and help Daniel. One odd side effect I get is when the map refreshes, it reloads...

Terrain Display trouble using the xml gps map

Thanks Daniel, I will give this a try. I really appreciate all the help. It seems that every time someone posts some advice a new little trick is revealed. You are correct, I was using just a bool value, so I can't wait to try this method. Thanks, Ian *UPDATE* Ok, I just tried plugging your...

Terrain Display trouble using the xml gps map

I got a switch working to turn the terrain layer on and off but it doesn't seem to reload the map. I don't know if I am missing the point or something but I just can't make this seemingly simple thing work. The only thing that causes my intended color change is to zoom way out and zoom back in...
