• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Resample cm/pixel?

I have a ground image 14,000 x 10,000 and I was going to place it with Sbuilder and the resample tool. But on some quick calculations I think I have figured out it's 15 cm per pixel. Will it keep it's detail when it goes through the resample tool? Or will I have to FS2k2 ground poly it?

This is FSX BTW

Cheers

Nick

Yes, in FSX you can go up to 7 cm resolution with the resample tool. As said file size should be the biggest problem :).

That is no problem at all. I tried to resample 3.5GB yesterday and resample said "Are you nuts?!" :D (thanks to Vista 64 bit Photoshop didn't have any problems at all with the file) But everything below 1 or 1.5GB should be fine.

Still you won't enjoy the same resolution as a 3D model, because you cannot use detail or bump maps on the terrain.

How can I accurately place this photo though? I don't know the exact lat/long of the corners of the photo.

Any ideas? Or is it hit and miss?

Where di you get the image. Normally you should also get another file with the lat/lon values.

I'm not sure if you can simply move the image in sbuilder to align it with the background image. You could also try to do that in googleearth. Or you may find a prominent point in the image of which you can get exact coordinates from googleearth. Then you can calculate the values you need.

Up to 4GB works fine. Above that you hit the limit of the what the GeoTIFF format can handle. But I compiled a TIF of more than 3 GB without problems. If you apply some compression the resulting BGL is smaller as well, the BGL should exactly be smaller than 2 GB to display correct in FSX.

Ah, yes, that was the problem. The bgl would've been larger than 2GB.
Thanks for the clarification. :)
