Many Thanks to all involved with this utility, Alas I cannot get it to work. On first running I browse to the location of FSX and OK it, on restarting AAM21 a window appears saying Scanning Aircraft Dir Reading... please wait... bitte warten and it just remains at that no progress at all.

I am running Win7 Build 7100 Evaluation Copy.

I have no trouble with this update, BUT, I am running XP SP-3. Maybe someone running Vista could post.

Hi
Im running xp sp3 and same problemo it just sits there with the Scanning Aircraft Dir Reading... please wait... bitte warten.Ive checked the path in the reg for fsx,its a default install, everything else works. To be fair this is an old install of fsx which started at ver1 and has been updated throughout the years.

Sad news...

Karl-Heinz is now on holliday and I doubt he can work on the code. Wa have to be patient.

It seems the Vista problem is caused by a dirty or unusual installation of FSX. Apparently there is a fake FSX directory on some machine that was probably created by an add-on in a roaming folder. I suppose Vista UAC and so on are parts of the game, but disabling UAC or starting AAM as administrator don't help.

Anyway: In some cases Vista denies AAM access to the FSX folder. Inserting the paths for SimObjects\Airplane manually in the AAM.CFG dont' help.

If you exprience this problem you can use AAM at the moment onyl without selection window. To do that, you have to edit AAM.CFG manually. Open this file and change the line "showaircraft" to

showaircraft = 0

Now you can run AAM and select the AIR file manually.

I think, Karl-Heinz will work on this issues after holliday.

Ciao, Sergio

Hi Wozza,

well, if have the same problem running XP sp3, it seems the problem is not Vista related. Do you have installed FSX in the default directory? And do you have installed FS9 too? If yes, you could help Karl-Heinz and check a couple of things.

I have the same problem in XP.

I can manually select an aircraft and add a new search path but if I set "Show aircraft" it hangs on "Scanning aircraft directory"

I have both FSX and FS9 installed but it did not automatically recognise my FSX path.

Okay, it seem it is not Vista related. Now I have access to a system that shows this issue too . In this case AAM can't scan any FSX folder but the FS9.

Please check this, if you have FS9 too: Set the FS path to the FS9 main folder and the search path to the FS9 aircraft folder. This way AAM should scan the folder and find all FS9 aircraft. If this happens, we know that the problem is FSX related.

This is for the users that run Vista and had installed FSX in a custom folder:
Please start the Configuration and click on "browse". In the opening search window go to C:\\programs\Microsoft Games\ and look for a FSX folder. On my "wrong" system I can see here an alomost empty FSX folder with the remainings of an add-on installing. It is probably a roaming folder or something similar, because I can't find this folder on C: and FSX is actually on E:. Do you see something similar on your systems?

As stated before, Karl-Heinz is on hollyday and can not work on the code. But perhaps we can help him doing some testing.

Ciao, Sergio

No, that doesn't work either.

So long as I have "Show aircraft selection" window unchecked, I can set the paths:

As soon as I check "Show aircraft selection" or set it in aam.cfg, I get the "Reading... please wait" dialog and the "Search paths" list box is empty:

Hi
Same here with fs9

I have cfs2,cfs3 fs9,fs9GW,fsx and fsx sdk all installed in the default Microsoft games folder so maybe its an issue. Also any chance it might be a regional thing? ie have a union jack on your flag .Anyway Im happy to use it in manual mode as it works fine.
Thanks
Wozza

Using Vista with a custom installation of FSX Acceleration I see no problems at all works great. In Win 7 by editing AAM.CFG and change the line "showaircraft" to

showaircraft = 0 As Sergio advised,

I can select the air file I require manually. I'm happy.

Many thanks at all for the feedback. It seems the aircraft selection menue has big problems with some FS installations.

In my case the folder selection window shows a FSX installation that I can't finde on the hard disk.
FSX is actually on E:\fsx but AAM shows an almost empty fsx folder under Programs\Microsoft Games:

Are you seeing something similar if you use the browse button in the configuration window and navigate to c:\programs\Microsoft Games?

Ciao, Sergio

Ciao, Sergio
I tested it on a PC where nothing FS related is installed. I don't see any folder that would not exists on the hard disk.

You could check that this folder is not marked as hidden or system by any chance.

Moinmoin Sergio,

I copied the new files over the old installation and it works fine. Windows Vista 32, UAC active, FSX.

Thanks for the update! The new version is awesome - no more copy&paste ceremonies any more!

Using the new version of AAM I actually enjoy to tweak the flight model. In other words: I make some goooood progress at the time. But it's still a long way to go.
