Meigs Field Airport (KCGX)

Hey everybody, just wanted to show the beginning of our new airport, Meigs Field. Even though it was closed we decided to restore it back to its old glory. We hope to include three different scenery types, one based in the 1990's, one in 2000 (airport was closed), and one in 2005 (the airport was completely removed). Here are some screen shots of the current version. Enjoy

Wow. I have always loved Meigs, especially in FS2002. That was kind of my 'benchmark' airport. I could test add-ons there and see what planes I could land successfully and which planes I couldn't. Will surely be a winner!

Thanks to Microsoft KCGX Meigs Field became Very Famous, and was the airport I flew from and to most of the time, in my early days of flying MSFS.
Even though I'm South African. I planned to Resurrect KCGX Meigs for FSX, however it seems you've done a mighty fine job of it.

Will this be payware? or Freeware?

Here are some final previews of the scenery before beta testing. Two versions of the scenery were recreated, one from 1999 the other from 2003 (The 2003 version isn't pictured below). The difference is that in 2003 the mayor hired a private demolition crew to cut huge x's and dig up parts of the runway to prevent aircrafts from landing there.

Hope you enjoy.

We are looking for more beta testers. We will start beta testing around March 6, if you are interested feel free to pm me or contact us here: http://www.flyscenery.org/fly/contact

Excellent....

I, too, thought about resurrecting that field (as I'm sure many others as well), and I am very glad someone did... It looks like your doing a remarkable job, I cant wait... Actually, from the screenies, it looks like your doing it the justice it needs....

Again, Excellent, and Thanks for doing it... It will surely be one of the highest d/l airfields if it is freeware, and worth it, I'm sure, if its payware....

Thanks again for doing that field!!!!

Here are some screen shots of the 2003 version of the airport...

Awesome work.
Meigs field has been a sentimental airport in terms of Microsoft Flight Simulator history.
Btw if ur still looking for beta testers I can help out. I have a low spec PC with FS9. Would be excellent to test FPS.

Wow I see that the scenery is already available on Avsim!!
I've tried it today, I've to say that the scenery is really AWESOME!! but, at least on my pc I have experienced an heavy FPS drop...
If I look at the whole airport my fps drop to 9-10 (I have all set to max) just to compare, in the same condition with same weather and setting, if I move the airplane to the near KMDW by FlyTampa and also the KORD by FSDreamteam I get 35 FPS (my fps locked setting)

I see that you have also released an update pack with less detailed texture and dxt3, I will try with these textures

Cheers Andrea

The scenery is somewhat of a frame hogger... The texture update reduces some texture sizes to 512x512 instead of 1024x1024 and uses mip maps (much faster at loading) which should remove some jitters. The frame rate problem is mostly because of too many polygons at one time (very little use of LODs). Lowering the scenery sliders should increase performance. Version 2 will include better performance fixes for different types of machines.
