• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

It is possible student version is different.

The full licensed version on DVD allows for configuration of installation (from memory, I'm not about to install it all again) and includes installing 32bit, 64 bit and backburner.

If you have discovered something then why not share it? Unless it breaches the EULA in some way.

stupid god damn server. i just spent half an hour writing how to bloodywell do it and got a server error when submitting and lost the lot. Stuff it!

Do a search on Autodesk's website, that's how i found out how to do it!...oh all right here i go again....

The Autodesk installers automatically check your O/S to determine whether you should have a 32 bit or 64 bit installation of 3ds Max. The way to override that is as follows...

1. Perform a standard installation (This is important, regardless of whether your Windows 7 or Windows 8 Operating System is 32 bit or 64 bit)
2. During the early stages of the install process you will come to a screen that shows what components are to be installed (they will have check boxes next to them on left hand side)
Unckeck any boxes with adjoining text containing words "64 bit" in them
3. Continue installation as normal. Once done you will have a 32 bit installation regardless of O/S being 32 or 64 bit! (don't forget to choose the configure installation option so you get the SP1 update)

This works for the installers used from 2010-2012 on almost all Autodesk products as far as i know. Dont know about Studio Max 2013. I have installed 2013, but since the AcesTools apparently dont work in Studio Max 2013, i went for the stock installation on my 64 bit Win 8 O/S...which defaulted Studio Max 64 bit version (and no im not using it for prepar3d modelling at this stage)

hope this much shortened version is of help to someone!

To install the 32bit version on 64bit PC you need to run Setup32.exe which is available in the root of the media or the temp folder which is created when you run Autodesk_3ds_Max_2012_English_Win_32-64bit.exe (the default is C:\Autodesk\Autodesk_3ds_Max_2012_English_Win_32-64bit\).

No "Tick Boxes" are available in MAX 12 installer!

this was even shorter way..lol
