    Am on my 20th hour trying to install SDK into FSX Accelerator ... is this a sick initiation into SDK?

    Am now using your procedures. Am at the troubleshooting stage as it still won't install. Found an issue with dll.xml - the disable is set to 'true'. Need to change it to 'false'. I right click on the file to open in notepad. Make the changes.

    Still no joy.

    Did you FIRST install the SDK from the FS-X Deluxe RTM disc?

    I don't know what RTM means but I installed SDK from disk 1 of deluxe. However when I installed SDK SP1a, the install window said it would uninstall the original SDK. When I installed the accelerator SDK - sdk.msi, the install window said it would uninstall SP1a. Go figure.

    What is the Toolbar when I fly in FSX. All I see is a menu bar which I can hide/unhide or some dialog windows when I right click the mouse.

    I ran the ADSE. Wouldn't run. Had a bunch of error alerts. Said to go to Owl's Nest. What's Owl's Nest?

    Thanks

    That's what it's supposed to do... Each SDK replaces the earlier version, so it must be uninstalled before the updated version can be installed...

    However, there is a method to the seeming madness, because the SimConnect.dll for each version of the SDK installed is NOT deleted, so that when done, there should be three SimConnect.dll's remaining in the ..\winsxs folder. This way, any SimConnect host or client will have the version it was compiled for available.

    If you have everything configured properly, you should have a new entry on the top menu bar of FSX called "Toolbar."

    Still no joy. I run Free Flight using the start up default Air Trike. Screen appears. I'm in full screen mode. I right click and select 'Unhide menu bar'. I see the usual menu categories plus one ADD-on for AI Carriers. No menu selection called "Tools'.

    Below is my dll.xml file:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>
    - <SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">
    <Descr>Launch</Descr>
    <Filename>dll.xml</Filename>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad>
    - <Launch.Addon>
    <Name>Object Placement Tool</Name>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
    <Path>..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path>
    </Launch.Addon>
    - <Launch.Addon>
    <Name>Traffic Toolbox</Name>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
    <Path>..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll</Path>
    </Launch.Addon>
    - <Launch.Addon>
    <Name>Visual Effects Tool</Name>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
    <Path>..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll</Path>
    </Launch.Addon>
    </SimBase.Document>

    All my files are in the default locations set up by the installation ... no custom/non-standard installation.

    In response to scruffy_duck's comment that SDK must be installed ... how can I run SDK outside of FSX. I read in the SDK overview that some modules are out side of FSX.

    WHat are the steps ... double click an icon, type a command line entry?

    Can I run the three modules that run in FSX outside of FSX also. If yes, how do I do this.

    Should be a warning on the FSX game box "Graduate degree in computer science needed to do the simplest tasks. Be prepared to waste large amounts of time of your free time".

    This will do the trick for you, to get the menu item Tools.

    Just replace the ..\ whit C:\ as you can see in the sample

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>
    - <SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">
    <Descr>Launch</Descr>
    <Filename>dll.xml</Filename>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad>
    - <Launch.Addon>
    <Name>Object Placement Tool</Name>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
    <Path>C:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path>
    </Launch.Addon>
    - <Launch.Addon>
    <Name>Traffic Toolbox</Name>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
    <Path>C:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll</Path>
    </Launch.Addon>
    - <Launch.Addon>
    <Name>Visual Effects Tool</Name>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
    <Path>C:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll</Path>
    </Launch.Addon>
    </SimBase.Document>

    Hi Folks

    clueless_joe -
    Have you got the 3 in-game Tools running yet ?

    Get that sorted first.
    See - FSDeveloper - Wiki - SDK Installation (FSX)

    See the FSDeveloper - Wiki - Command Prompt Window and the links from there.

    No.
    As explained in the Wiki -
    the OPT, Traffic ToolBox & VisualFX tools only run within FSX.

    Admin/Moderators -
    Recommend moving this thread and the other one
    to the Tools -SDK installation subforum.
