• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA lock up

Has anyone ever had this happen?

1. Open FSX to your scenery.
2. open ADE
3. auto-connect
4. lock then un-lock
5. suddenly or very soon you find ADE can't move - wait a few seconds (10 or 15) and it then work, but then locks up again almost immediately.

This is not ADE problem. I think it has to do with something going on in FSX.

Is there something to look at or change in FSX? bob

No- ADE freezes..... then unfreezes and repeats.
Seen similar with Airport Studio - it goes along... I'm doing this and that then I notice the response starts getting slower.... i.e. drawing a taxiway or road....... response is usually immediate. but then the response.... draw a section and the section appears instantly... etc. The slow-down.... draw a taxiway section and the section you just drew appears a second or so later. This starts tol stretch out more time until finally all hell freezes over. Message appears........ FSX not responding... need to shut down.

Start again and start airport studio and it allows you to save just before the crash.

I assume this may be the same or similar problem affecting ADE now. had the Airport Studio problem way before Win 10 install. Had win 10 for months now... suddenly ADE is being affected. Wonder if this has to do with Win 10 updates?

I've seen ADE "lockup" whenever I was working in "Approach Mode" whenever I was adding a real world approach with the actual Terminal Waypoints from the current AIRAC. It usually happens when I import the stock approaches that use waypoints named "CF12" or "D07L" (etc) and I edit them to the real world waypoint name. The freeze is always momentary and rarely lasts more than 30 seconds or so. Has never resulted in a complete freeze ending FSX connection.

I doubt this is the issue in your case, but thought I'd throw it out there to see if it turns on any lightbulbs over someone else's head.

You are likely using all your available ram. Are you using a stock version of FSX upon which to try these creations, or are you adding a new scenery layer each time you start a new project and leaving all the others activated? Back in the day, I found FSX to be very particular about large scenery.cfg files. For one thing, the stock scenery tool will only load 999 layers. Using tools like SceneryConfigEditor, you can get up to about 1200 layers before FSX chokes - and that says nothing about the relative complexity of these layers.
Anyway, the beauty of SCE is that you can have multiple scenery.cfg files and swap them very quickly using this tool. You could have one that is just Europe, or just GA fields, or for development purposes, the default configuration. I even made a stripped down .cfg that only included the minimum to run the sim for lad testing conditions.
I thought it might be something to look into. i would suspect that, or something similar, to be the issue. What about progressive updates would make you suspect that to be the cause?

Interesting both, but not sure those apply. 8 gigs of mem, large hard drive, Not that many sceneries or aircraft. I5 motherboard. never had ADE do this. ADE upper right hand corner says test. I use version 165 prokey. Airport Studio has been its cranky self for a couple of years... just annoying but it works well otherwise.

Other than this I recently had this: make a vehicle spot... draw vehicle path to the airplane spots. I then back in FSX get onto a parking spot and call for fuel (shift+f) I get the message.... truck takes off - gets half way to my plane and stops. Once I did this twice and the second time it worked.

Later went to each spot and called for fuel and/or allowed an ai to get fuel ---- they all worked... even though back in ADE fault finder says the path is not properly connected to the rest of the airport. IT IS!!! ;)

However...... SAME airfield.... other side I have 4 parking spots all connected correctly. every other one works yet ADE says ai are connected right!

Another.... (my dumb mistake here) could not get my traffic file to work... finally found I had drawn a taxiway line instead of the black rwy line!!! bwahahah! Stared at that for days finally a friend pointed that out. Went back and corrected a few airports I did this to All corrected EXCEPT ONE - it would not change to black even if I deleted the lines and redid them.
I had to use Airport Studio to do it to that one airport and it worked and stayed that way. Odd!!!

Pertinent info?............. I am doing about 17 airfields for the fellows I fly with. Each is supposed to be a retirement resort for each member. I have ALL of theses in one scenery folder. I have about 8 areas to go yet. All in Alaska, each by a body of water........... doing a lot of sloped polys here and there!!! working out fine.
Anyway- all traffic files ok now... get fuel here and there act up. ADE seems to freeze.

I think I will go to a totally different scenery I have had no trouble with and see if ADE acts up there. If not then it's the area I am in. I've seen stuff like that before. Maybe I am just not holding my tongue quite right? ;) Bob

Just went to another field I am working on . ADE performed great. Must be just the high altitude area or something about it. Not really worried now.... hope. ;)

It is nothing weird like high altitude and based on the taxi line account, possibly user inspired. I have a strong suspicion that the complexity and density of the items you are working on is the culprit.
