I followed all the instructions for installing SDK unto my computer but the tools do not appear in FSX. FSUIPC does.

I have changed the 0 to 1 in FSX.CFG but it changes after FSX in run.

I would appreciate any help. This is driving me crazy!

Here is my ADE-Check-Report and dll.xml

    Two things "catch my eye."

    1. The paths to the Tools are incorrect.
    2. The SDK was installed inside of FSX's folder, which is a quick way to uber-confusion!

Based on the installation, these three entries should work:

    <Path>D:\FSX\SDK\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path>
    <Path>D:\FSX\SDK\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll</Path>
    <Path>D:\FSX\SDK\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll</Path>

A better scheme for installing the SDK would have been:

    D:\FSX_SDK\...

    Hi Folks

    bobnhat -
    In this instance, as installed,
the correct paths should be -
    <Path>D:\FSX\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path>
    <Path>D:\FSX\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll</Path>
    <Path>D:\FSX\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll</Path>

However you'd be better uninstalling the SDK entirely,
and reinstalling as per Bill's suggestion D:\FSX_SDK\

    Same problem no tools!

I'm having the exact same problem. I edit fsx.CFG with a 1 at the end of the individual tools, start FSX and it writes a 0. Therefore I assume my paths are wrong and need help. I'll just comment on the object_placement.dll because what is wrong with that is wrong with the other two.

    Code:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll.htnlilabwrwcalbrzilbiqrhbnkwuaonccnwkwlk=1

     <Path>C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path>
I have no problems with the SDK path for anything else, just the tools.

    I have run ConfigSDK.exe.

    Any ideas?

Roy, you should simply remove those entries from fsx.cfg and let FSX prompt you for approval again. Each time it will generate a new gobbledegook string of characters...

Just as a comment, I had to edit and correct every entry in the dll.xml file, the true/false thing and the path to the tools, crazy thing, yes., I installed the Sdk inside Fsx too, this is a entry.

    <Launch.Addon>
    <Name>Object Placement Tool</Name>
    <Disabled>false</Disabled>
    <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
    <Path>D:\Flight Simulator X\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path>

I can't remember if I had to edit the individuals files in the Sdk too. (dll files). good luck.

    Bill,
When I delete the lines and start FSX it just writes them back with 0 and does not ask for approval. I have FSUIPC showing only in the add on drop down. When I remove that line from the CFG, it asks for approval and writes it correctly.

I'm pretty sure it only writes the line if it is correctly called up in dll.XML, because I have old renamed copies of CFG before I enabled the tools in dll.XML and the tools were not mentioned then in CFG.

In the mission creation folder there is another instance of dll.xml that only covers the object placement tool and it also has the correct path, but I see no reason why it should do anything.

If I delete CFG, it writes the default one and puts the tools to 0 without asking for approval.

I only have FSXA and the SDK was correctly installed.

Roy, the only version of the dll.xml file that has any affect whatever is the one kept in your UserName\AppData\Roaming folder. Mine for example is kept here:

    C:\Users\Bill\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\dll.xml

The copies found in various folders of the SDK are strictly for reference, and have no affect whatever on the sim.

Under normal circumstances, no one should ever need to "hand edit" the working fsx.cfg file (which is also located in the same folder as dll.xml).

To be perfectly frank, the entire installation should have been simplified by ACES before they ever released the SDK, but it is what it is. In 99% of the cases I've seen over the past six years though, the most common reasons for the SDK Tools to fail to appear correctly have all been traced back to user's errors, which themselves are often a result of not following the SDK's rather cryptic instructions carefully... :D

    Bill,
I'm sure you are correct that it is some error on my part that is stopping the tools from appearing in the menu, but here is exactly what I'm seeing.

As I said above I was not getting the approval dialog, so I forced it by making
this change <Launch.ManualLoad>True</Launch.ManualLoad>. This gave me the dialog for each add on and I answered yes to all of them. The dialog for object placement called it Version 10.0.61355.0 which is the version of that file, so I'm assuming the path to it is correct. However all I got was FSUIPC. The CFG still wrote zeros even though I had clicked Yes (Out of perversity I tried NO, made no difference).

As a further check I said NO to FSUIPC, and got no add on in the FS menu which is what should happen, but the odd thing is that the FSUIPC line in CFG still had a 1. I know the CFG I'm looking at is the one addressed by FS because I can see the Date Modified change on my left monitor as FS starts.

It is not that I am desperate to use the tools, I'm desperate to find out what is wrong!

You may have multiple entries for the SDK dlls in fsx.cfg, FSX will use the last one it finds.

In fact, I have three entries for traffictoolbox.dll, two have "gobbledegook=1" and one with "gobbledegook=0".

    Code:
    F:\FSXSDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll.uwobncqrquwcnionoobrtraniwrithnlolunikac=1
    F:\!FSX\Modules\FSUIPC4.dll.iahhqeaiuwiuwwqoknnzkaklltbhawberakekleh=1
    F:\FSXSDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll.blbrbiotohwaneuwznazwcitaqlizakocnotobzb=0
    F:\!FSX\Modules\FSUIPC4.dll.bnuoiocbctwicehzzeicahleenbwczzahcrrnzlh=1
    F:\FSXSDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll.tuaizohlknkacnhokbttlkooltkonzucnkbuahre=1
    F:\FSXSDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll.nqktllhalnebzqcqnubiwuezoiqeeacbootkiaoo=1

    Hi Folks

    Roy -
As per the READ FIRST & both wiki articles

    * The SDK will not work.
    * The FSX in-game Tools/Extras menu will not display.
    * 3rd party tools may not work, or function correctly.

UNLESS you install the appropriate SDK SP version,
which corresponds to your FSX game SP version.

    You've installed FSX Acceleration,
but only installed the RTM SDK.

    Thanks

Did exactly what you said and I have Tools!

Strange thing is that I installed the FSXA SDK from the DVD set-up menu and everything was there and working except for Tools. Guess it was a registry issue.

    Thanks again
    Roy
