• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Texture transparency problems

Hoping you all can help me identify and correct this problem. The building in the attached picture was created in Sketchup and converted in MCX to an FS9 model and placed in a scene in Flight Simulator 2004. The chain link fence looks pretty good to me, using the Sketchup .png chain link texture converted in the MCX Texture Converter to DXTBMP using the "Default Transparent" mode. Using "Default Opaque" creates a solid white fence. Noticeable in the photo is that some textures positioned behind the fence render as solid wall (nice); some render as completely transparent showing landscape/sky thru them. Some of the interior walls do this. Some exterior (tan stucco) wall on the second floor goes transparent. All other textures are .jpg textures converted to BMP in MCX using the "default opaque" feature when assigned to the model.
Thoughts? Thanks
Dan

you can play with the "Alpha Test" values , when having problems with this kind of issue I assing "greater" to the alpha test function. don't know why but work. or setting Z-test alpha to "true". or something so, sorry but I'm not an expert
Edit: rereading a Little the post don't know if I understood the question properly. are you saying that some materials are transparent where don't should be ?. Reading that you are playing with default opaque/default transaparent I guess you have messed the things a Little. you have to assing default transparent to the material assigned to the fences or any texture with alpha channels. you can't assign to materials that should be solids. though if the texture not have alpha channels not should have to be affected.

It if FS9, isn't it? Alpha Test does not work at all.
FS9 control transparency by the texture.
I think you need to save the fence texture to DXT1 and the building behind with DXT3. It might help. If the building is totally opaque, DXT1 is fine too.
Transparency in FS9 is always a headache problem.
