    Hey guys,

    I was just curious how difficult it would be to add Traffic to the stock Garmin 500 in FS2004.

    Has anyone done something like that before in XML? Is it possible?

    I remember having the Flight1 Cessna 421 Golden Eagle, and it had traffic in the Garmin system. (Fantastic plane).

    Uh, yes. I have. Arne Bartels wrote a .dll about three years ago that will allow us to have TCAS in any XML gauge.

    Look for trafficradarxml201.zip at AVSIM

    BTW, just a warning... this module will NOT function at all in FSX.

    FSX uses a different DLL to supply the traffic information, and ACES never got around to providing an interface C header file for the new system.

    I had a request in to the ESP team to investigate and supply "us" with the missing C gauge header file, but of course the studio was closed before they had a chance to follow up... :tapedshut

    Well, you can always add the default FSX traffic, but it's pretty limited:

    Code:
    <CustomDraw blah,blah,blah>

    	<LayerVehicles>1</LayerVehicles>
    	<DetailLayerVehicles>1</DetailLayerVehicles>
    	<ObjectDetailLayerVehicles>0x05</ObjectDetailLayerVehicles>

    </CustomDraw>

    Options for <DetailLayerVehicles> are:

    -1 = Default
    0 = Draw nothing
    1 = ATC symbol
    2 = TCAS symbol
    3 = Realistic symbol

    Options for <ObjectDetailLayerVehicles> are:

    -1 = Default
    0 = Draw nothing
    0x1 = Track line
    0x2 = Ground vehicles
    0x4 = Airborne vehicles
    0x8 = Racing vehicles //Acceleration Only!

    In the example above, I'm using 0x5 which is 4+1 "Airborne Vehicles & Trackline"

    BTW, all of this is covered in the FSX SDK... :D
