• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.

Exporting Collada files with Sketchup (Standard)

I can say the COLLADA/KML support is still on my ModelConverterX wishlist. Not that much progress though yet...

There is a workaround exporting Collada objects with the NON PRO Version of Sketchup I want to share. Because I had these problems with my Mannheim Castle I searched in some forums and found this:

1. Edit the object in Sketchup (Free Version)
2. Export it as 3D-Object (KML-File)
3. Use the free version of StuffIt Expander 2010 für Windows
(Search for stuffit 10 windows in google, you get it e.g. hereChip.de)
4. Open the KML-File in Stuffit
5. Search for the DAE-File which is what a surprise included in the kml-file and extract it

That´s it :)

It did not help me with my current problem, Arno will do with a new version of ModelConverterX, but perhaps somebody needs that trick in another context.

If you have the current version of sketchup 7.1 you can export the .dae file directly from sketchup.

Hi Jorg,

Indeed, I had no problem exporting directly to DAE from Sketchup and I do not have the Pro version. If you export as KMZ ModelConverterX can also read it directly.

Hi Scott,
Hi Arno,

thank you both for your hint. I checked that again and it seems to be no German version 7.1 of Sketchup. The Download page at google also only talks about Version 7.

Hi,

On the webpage I also only see mention of version 7, but after I downloaded it last week I have version 7.1.6087 on my PC. I don't know when they added the COLLADA support exactly.

Hi,

I found the problem. There simply is no German version 7.1
Downloaded the English version now and that works perfect exporting DAE-files.
Its a bit confusing that Google talks about Version 7 in both cases.
