• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Model Placement

Hi all,

I am not sure how you guys do it. But I had a look at the documentation and the samples but I can't figure out how to place one of my own models in the sim. I find the default objects and can place them easily but not my own. If I load the sample scenery in, I can see the already placed ones but I can't place new ones.

Any help or hints would be great

Are you using 3dsmax?

No I am using Blender. I think I could write an XML to place it randomly at some point and then just move it within the simulator with the given Tools. I just think that's not the way it is supposed to work, right?

I'm creating a quick and dirty app to help with creating packages and place models in the world. It's heavily WIP and might not be for everyone due to the framework I'm using (streamlit), but it works for me. Let me know if anyone's interested or have some ideas what needs to be added. Will run locally in browser.

Hi Andy:

The more the merrier... thanks for your offer to share your innovation with us all as we explore how to better understand and utilize the MSFS-2020 SDK. :)

IMHO, many of us here would be grateful to access and test even an early 'Alpha' work-in-progess version. ;)

Would you consider making the current build available via an attachment or a link ? :scratchch

Hey! Yes, I'll upload the code to a GitHub repository with installation instructions and a brief tutorial as soon as I can (next couple of days). Don't expect too much though for now, as I don't have too much time to work on it. :)

actually got also a problem. followed your nice tutorial and all went great. The Object is placed nicely. Now I wanted to go on and add 2 more objects, exported them and do everything the same as before, but I cant get to the point, where I can the them in Dev Mode in "Objects". The first one is still there. Anything else I need to do, so one can add more objects after one object is already placed?

Im trying to also add polygon shapes into the scenery but every time I reload it seems the editor does not load them regardless if I saved them into a shp file
or not

The tools available in the sim seem rudimentary at best, and I don't understand how anyone would think they are usable in any way. :rotfl:

Looking at them today, most seems pretty easy, would love to know how to process stuff via command line as it appears the tools exist in the SDK's

We expect that ADE 2020 will be able to place objects in the same way that it can for other sims. There is no timetable for release but we are in an early alpha program right now. Airports can be either started from scratch, be based on an existing ADE project or use a stock airport from an earlier version of the sim.

What do you want the tool to do that they don't currently do? I have almost finished an Airport with a mix of custom models and built-in models where appropriate, Not really any issue placing them correctly.
