    New tick mark generator

I just made a new tick mark generator. You can get it here: http://www.mickposch.com/flightsim/fs_freeware.htm It's a file that comes in 2 versions - for Gmax 1.2 and 3DS Max 8 or higher - which you use is strictly personal preference. You edit the start and stop keyframes of a revolving...

    Reflections and Specular in FSX

Good thing you figured that out Frank. I just assumed the option was for an actual precipitation effect (as in "water droplets") that might be coming down the pike in a future SDK release. ________ LIVE SEX WEBSHOWS

    Mysterious collective inputs

I can't reproduce the bug in the Cessna, but you can definitely see it happening in the R-22. If I disconnect the Saitek and use the Page Up & Page Down arrows when in the R-22, there's no improvement - I can still reproduce it. Haven't tried disablin Magic Mouse; my goofy Saitek utility refuses...

    3DS Max 7 can I still purchase?

3DS Max will improve your workflow a bit, but your end product won't likely be distinguishable from one made in GMax. Polygons is polygons, and all the new gee-whiz material options available in FSX come from the export tools, not from the 3D program. ________ HOW TO ROLL BLUNTS

    Mysterious collective inputs

If I unplug the joystick/throttle (which is an X-45), the power continues to fluctuate - including the collective lever movement. So it seems like an FSX problem, rather than a controller input problem. ________ Web Shows

    Mysterious collective inputs

I'm making a helicopter, using piston engine based flight dynamics - using the R-22 as a starting point. When I first start up a flight, the power oscillates up & down slowly, while the chopper is just sittting there on the runway and no hands are on the controls. You can actually see the...

    Prop Visibility

I've got a still, slow, and blurred rotor, and I gave them the rotor_still, rotor_slow, and rotor_blurred tags, respectively. All 3 of them are happilly rotating around at the same time. The keyframed animation works fine, but all 3 are always visible, whether the rotor is spinning or stopped...

    Wacky Wheels in FSX

That's the way they work now? Reminds me of the time the video company I was working for bought a flatscreen monitor. There was a bright cyan pixel that always remained lit, which always seemed to be hovering in front of the subject's face. The manufacturer didn't make good on it; they said that...

    Wacky Wheels in FSX

What's the deal with these wheels in FSX? If you're taxiing down the runway and put on the brakes, the wheels instantly freeze to a halt, even though the aircraft is still moving. They also freeze up the exact millisecond the aircraft lifts off the runway. I thought the project I was working on...

    3dsMax or Gmax and why?

Most of the advantages that 3D Max has over GMax are workflow-oriented. It also gives you the ability to use your model for purposes other than Flight Sim, if you need to, and to create hi res software renders of your aircraft. But as far as the final result is concerned, you wouldn't really...

    Are you actually playing FS?

I thought I was the only one who spent all his time designing and never flying...guess I'm in good company. Since I got FSX, though, I've started to do a little more flying. Most of that has been missions...it's great being able to just sit down and fly, without spending all that time diddling...

    "degenerating polys"-error, exporting a model

I fixed most of my degenerate poly errors by welding, but there are still a few that can't be fixed. In most cases, every test within 3D Max that I can possibly do on the objects (including STL Check) shows that there's absolutely nothing funky about them - and they seem to look fine in the sim...

    Reflections and Specular in FSX

I just got the whole thing working...reflections, specular, and bump maps! If you dig into the SDK docs, and really study the appearance of the surface you're trying to re-create, you can do some pretty cool things. The glossy paint effects that you can get are far superior to FS9, and the...

    Reflections and Specular in FSX

I still can't get the specular to work, but the reflections are working. I think they were working the whole time and I didn't notice - they were extremely faint. So darkening the alpha made them more visible. Apparently you need to make the reflective areas in your alpha channel much darker...
