The source file 400_foot_square_groundsplash.gmax should make things more clear, as you will see how I have created multiple, layered polygons, and used a slightly unusual twist to the FSX Material settings.
Note that the first (Parent) layer is 0.25" above the surface to prevent flickering (Z-Bias fighting), and the topmost layer has been rotated 2.5Âº up from the edge closest to the pole. This last layer is what illuminates any other objects in the scene.
