Runway markings - released 02162009
-----------------------------------

This is two libraries to be used with an object placement tool, such as Instant Scenery by Flight1. The objects are an attempt to work around some of the limitations found when working with the FSX SDKs.

The library Runway_Markings has runway numbers, touchdown markings, STOL, blast pad and other markings. These utilize the default textures from within FSX and maintain the proportions of the default objects. A screen capture was used to form the basis for the necessary texture file.

The library Chevrons is a set of objects to mark areas on turns and taxiways and the likes. These come in two colors, white and yellow. These objects use a default FSX texture file, Runway_marks.dds.

INSTALLATION:
-------------
Using a tool such as WinZip, extract the files using "Use folder names". If you extract directly into your FSX installation then select the target folder as \Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery. You will end up with a new structure like this;

\Flight Simulator X
   \Addon Scenery
      \Runway_markings
         \scenery
         \texture

Activate the new folder Runway_markings using the FSX scenery library and the objects should be recognized by Instant Scenery under the BGL file names; Chevrons and Runway_Markings.

Or you may extract the files and folders to a temporary location and cut and paste the files so that you have a structure like shown above.

USAGE:
------
The runway markings are a 1 foot high box with a texture applied to the top. The remaining sides of the box have been given a transparent material texture. The chevron objects are a 1 foot wide by 1 foot high by whatever length box, with textures applied to all but the bottom, which is transparent. As you place any of these objects you will need to sink them below gound level. But if you sink them too low they will disappear or you will have flashing, flickering textures. Size of the object will dictate how much the object needs to be set below ground level. Simple testing with Instant Scenery shows the objects work best when set no lower than about -.26 meters. If the scale of the object is reduced then the sunken level must be reduced accordingly.
