• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    FSXA A Custom Airport Beacon

Congratulations, Richard. :) For those of us that may wish to see your current build of the beacon working in FSX, will there be a download available here ? I was very pleased to see experienced members of the FS Community cooperate on this innovative enhancement for FSX. PS: Does it...

Qgis users? Qgis saving my Float 32 and/or int 16 files as 8 Bit

Hi Scott: If you prefer doing some reading prior to delving in to use of SBuilderX for various aspects of scenery building, see this post: https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/import-gp.456338/post-910111 However, you are IMHO, familiar with most basics of working with SBuilderX, so we...

    P3D v4 Import GP

Congratulations, Peter. :) By having used GeoTIFF2INF you now have the Geo-referencing info inside the INF file'; it is best to always keep it in that file. One must edit the source file(s) for imagery to implement any desired changes; we can not edit SDK Resample compiled BGLs. If you are...

    P3D v4 Import GP

Hi Peter: Indeed, GeoTIFF2INF "should" throw that error message, as the input is a BMP that was output by SASPlanet in EPSG:3785. :alert: BTW: Geographic (Lat-Lon) projection with WGS84 datum is EPSG:4326; SDK Resaample requires this GIS format for source files. ;) EPSG:3785 is a...

How do I change the elevation of default terrain

Hi John: Thanks for the heads-up on that explanation; all we need now is a fix by Asobo for a now even more buggy SDK DevMode GUI. We are being 'bumped around' like rubber balls, by multiple issues in MSFS' "buggy" (baby ?) SDK. Ok, you guessed what was coming ...pejorative faux...

Qgis users? Qgis saving my Float 32 and/or int 16 files as 8 Bit

Hi Chris: I'll take a look at the 2NC0 terrain mesh in P3Dv4.x as a comparison with FSX today; I do not have P3Dv5 available at this time. UPDATE: I just tested P3Dv4.x with my hi-res LiDAR derived terrain mesh and the Hi-res imagery. With P3Dv4.x default terrain mesh ONLY underlying the...

    P3D v4 Import GP

Hi Peter: See if Dick's explanation resolves the issue: If no success, please let me know, and we will walk through the latter steps required by the SBuilderX Calibration process. :) Some additional search results...

How do I change the elevation of default terrain

Hi John: In GE top down view, zoom in on the boat launch / pier area, then pull the "Golden Guy" figure off the top right compass gizmo. You will see roadside and spot versions of street view imagery marked in Blue; drop the "Golden Guy" figure on the Blue "views". I will be out for a couple...

How do I change the elevation of default terrain

I noticed the same thing when I did a quick test in DevMode at Sechelt Porpoise Bay to see if one can make 'sloped' Polygons. A point appears nearby that I did not personally click to start my Polygon vertices; looks like a new bug. :banghead: GaryGB

How do I change the elevation of default terrain

Hi John: Based on an analysis I performed in Sketchup with Date / Time calibrated for 3D model shadow alignment to imagery showed the current Google Earth imagery at Sechelt Porpoise Bay was captured on July 28, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. (less often seen in GE imagery). IIUC, calculated tidal height...

    P3D v4 Import GP

Hi Peter: Apparently I forgot to specify that you manually edit the existing coordinates that are stored in the SBuilderX.ini file, and those pre-set values wrote into the Calibrate image dialog box coordinate fields, and into the TXT file. If the TXT file name exactly matches the BMP...

How do I change the elevation of default terrain

Hi John: [EDITED] I just measured the shore platform to which your Harbour Air Seaplane pier appears to be attached (part is not a level grade). This is not the shore platform to which your large paved pier appears to be attached (at a level grade to roll cargo etc.). [END_EDIT] The shore...

    P3D v4 Import GP

Hi Peter: In SBuilderX workspace with the background map that you added from disk displayed, use the magnifying g;ass tool to zoom out with the Mouse wheel. Once you can see the entire tile of 1-piece imagery, use the pointer cursor tool to draw a selection rectangle around that tile, so that...

How do I change the elevation of default terrain

Hi John: Looks Good. :) AFAIK, you could use separate Polygons for land / water that have a minimum (IIRC, 1 Meter ?) falloff value. IIUC, that should allow the desired more vertical drop-off from land into water at the shoreline by the pier ? I mentioned tides not because they exist in...

How do I change the elevation of default terrain

Indeed, that process enables 3D model Gizmo positioning vertically ...regardless of central datum location. :) BTW: One may wish to consider CAX3 local max. tide height levels if placing piers / assigning H2O levels AMSL: https://www.tides.gc.ca/en/stations/7852 GaryGB

MSFS Issue to convert FSX plane to MSFS

I wonder what Bill Ortis (aka "lionheart") has now found with converting his high detail "> 65K" aircraft from FS2Kx to MSFS ? Bill previously wrote extensively on his success breaking the 65K barrier for vertices in FS2004, FSX, and P3D. IIUC, the question may now be 2-fold (aka "double...

How do I change the elevation of default terrain

Hi John: Here is a test in FSX at CAX3 showing the 60cm terrain mesh DTM draped with 7.5cm Google Satellite imagery: This was output as a "bare Earth" DTM rendered elevation grid (with no photogrammetry objects), compiled as a FSX terrain mesh BGL. Again, at these resolutions, the...

Hi John: Here is a test in Global Mapper 3D mode at CAX3 showing the 60cm terrain mesh DTM draped with 7.5cm Google Satellite imagery: This will be output as a "bare Earth" DTM rendered elevation grid (with no photogrammetry objects), compiled as a FSX terrain mesh BGL. Again, at these...

How do I change the elevation of default terrain

Hi John: Here is a test in FSX at CAX3 showing the 60cm terrain mesh DSM draped with 7.5cm Google Satellite imagery: Tomorrow I shall output a DTM as a "bare Earth" rendered elevation grid (with no photogrammetry objects), and will post a screenie. At these resolutions, the precise shape of...
