• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Library ticket 'Endurance' figure (you know - the brief description that appears in the Hanger)

So I've been sucked into this world to fix a problem. In this particular case almost all of the parameters on the 'library card' were wrong, but I tracked most of them down to the aircraft.cfg and the flight_model.cfg file. The one I can't find is the 'Endurance' figure - it's currently set at a...

P3D v5 Adding/retaining mouse rects in an aircraft mdl

I have a ModelPart that I want to remove, but I want to retain the mouse rect so that a click action can still be activated. I know the mouse rect number, so positioning is not a problem. I've read the manual very, very carefully but there doesn't seem to be any (safe) way of removing the...

    A minor usability suggestion

In the Hierarchy Editor add a Collapse All / Expand All option. Collapsing everything and then running up and down the list with the arrow keys to find a particular SceneGraphNode will be a lot quicker. -Dai

    P3D v5 .x file structure

One for Arno (I think) or anyone who really understands the .x file structure. I imported one of my own vc.mdls to change the visibility condition for a couple of items. I don't do 3DS and I didn't build the original so I can't do the obvious and change the visibility conditions at source...

    Odd variable naming [SOLVED]

HI Arno Any idea what's going on here? Both my tester and I are using MCX 1.5.0 but whereas he is seeing the correct L:var names (mcx1.png), I am not (mcx2.png). This applies to all L:vars. I've tried the latest beta but no change :( Thank you. -Dai

Why you should always have secured backups

http://avherald.com/h?article=4f6a8fd6&opt=0 TL,DR. Rosaviatsia (the Russian CAA/NTSB) no longer have any data on any Russian aircraft incidents/accidents anywhere in Russia because their database (singular!) has been totally wiped and they have no backups (!!!!). As a developer I fell prey to...

    Visibility flags

I see them in the MCX hierarchy when I load a vc_mdl, but does anyone know exactly where they are i.e. which file they are stored in? I ask because the modeller who did my current aircraft has put a couple of knobs under a visibility flag when they should be under 'none'. I can't ask him to fix...

    Another suggestion / request

Hi Arno When reading the mdl hierarchy, the L:vars are listed as 'custom_anim_LvarName_index' and the visibility flags as 'custom_vis_FlagName_index'. Would it be possible to add an option to remove the prefix and index so that the L:var and the visibility flag reflect the actual names? e.g...

Crash in latest 1.6 development version

Hello Arno You're going to tell me I shouldn't be doing this... :D - Open the latest devlopment version - Do NOT load anything - Select Special Tools | Optimise Scenegraph It generates an exception. I haven't tried anything else. -Dai

Suggestion: add suffix numbers to the SceneGraphNodes

I was jumping backwards and forwards checking specific ModelParts that were quite some distance apart in the model hierarchy and it occurred to me that it would be a lot easier if each node had a number. This would make finding nodes and model parts a lot easier in this type of situation. -Dai

    SODE Reload event

Whatever the SODE Reload event is doing, it's causing a lot of the PILOT'S Boeing B-314 Clipper variables to be reset to zero immediately after it hits. I've had three people report this - all have captured the following event using Doug Dowson's P3D Event Logger: "id=<event id>...

New tool - 'mdldefGUI', a multithreaded XtoMDL compiler

Uploaded a few days ago with Arno's permission. From the readme: "mdldefGUI is a multi-threaded front end for P3D’s XToMDL compiler. It is based on using the P3Dv4.x-onwards version of XToMDL so does not have the deprecated /NOGUI, /BATCH and /NOCRASH flags as options. It allows the storage of...

Recip engine start smoke rpm value

Really not sure where to put this as it could legitamately be put in any number of sections. Under the [Effects] heading in the aircraft.cfg file, there is a 'startup=' entry for the engine smoke. Can anyone tell me where this is tied to an RPM value? It definately does not depend on the engine...

P3D v5 Replacing default sound files

I want to temporarily replace a default sound file during a check routine; specifically the autopilot disconnect sound. I have a suspicion that the default files may be locked while the sim is active because I don't seem to be able to do it. The absolute paths in the code are created at load...

P3D v5 Syntax error in data struct C++

This is my first attempt at creating and reading a data definition dynamically. It all works well insofar that the data definition is created and that 'RequestDataOnSimObject' is fired off because if (pObjData->dwRequestID == REQUEST_PAYLOAD_INFO) gets hit successfully. The syntax problem...

    P3D v5 Modeldef XML problem - and I'm a C programmer!

Sorry guys - really could not think of a good title for this. In the modeldef, if someone holds down the right mouse button while moving (say) throttle lever 1, I also want throttle lever 2 to move. Got this working perfectly in the 2D but the VC is just laughing at me. As the right mouse button...

    ADF ident sound problem

In that... I can't turn it off!! I have tried trigger_key_event(KEY_RADIO_ADF_IDENT_DISABLE, 0); trigger_key_event(KEY_RADIO_ADF_IDENT_TOGGLE, 0); // After checking for an 'on' state trigger_key_event(KEY_RADIO_ADF_IDENT_SET, 0); To check for the on/off state, I've been using double...

    VC tooltips

I really have no idea where to put this thread, so here seems as good a place as any. I've been told by one modeller that it isn't possible to add dynamic tooltips to a VC clickspot, but I'm also being told by a user that he has seen them. So if this is the modeldef code for the rudder trim...

    aircraft.cfg - rudder_trim_effectiveness

[flight_tuning] rudder_trim_effectiveness = 1.0 Given that rudder trim is hard-coded to 10 degrees in the sim and the Boeing B-314 has a rudder trim max of 20 degrees, is compensating for the restricted angle as simple as [flight_tuning] rudder_trim_effectiveness = 2.0 It can't be, can...
