• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    Dynamic lighting

Hi Arno! A possible (temporary) solution that might be easier to implement and came to my mind recently is being able to manipulate the Values with lets say the mousewheel or sliding left/right to decrease/increase each of the X/Y/Z values and immediately seeing the result in 3d, rather than...

    Dynamic lighting

Thanks Arno, great to hear! Such a feature would be so cool and useful, I hope it is possible to implement. It's enough to be able to move along a single axis at a time. Maybe something like these gizmo 3d manipulators that are used for example in MSFS scenery editor and 3d software like...

    Dynamic lighting

When adding a spotlight what is the best way to move it in the correct place? is it just playing around with thhe coordinate input until it fits? would be really useful to have some gizmo transform tool to move and rotate spotlights in place visually in rendered view just like in blender.

    MCX Problem with transparent textures.

Hi arno, a took a closer look at the resulting xplane .obj file and it seems the "ATTR_no_blend" attribute caused it, it was set to "ATTR_no_blend 0,501960784313725", i deleted that line and the window texture finally looks just as i expected it to look like now. Is there any way in mcx to set...

    MCX Problem with transparent textures.

Here is a side by side how it looks in mcx vs in the sim. The png is definitely transparent so i really wonder how xplane can show something else.

    MCX Problem with transparent textures.

Hi, for some reason all transparent textures become opaque when exported from MCX to xplane .obj. The strange thing is when i open the texture in photoshop it is transparent but in the sim its opaque. In MCX it is rendered correctly with transparent textures as well. I have succesfully exported...

How can I matt models with glossy surface.

Hello. check the "ATTR_shiny_rat" (last line in the .obj file). when exporting the xplane object with mcx it is sett to "ATTR_shiny_rat 1" by default, which makes objects very glossy. Try changing the value to 0.5 (this is the default blender and sketchup exported objects use). Not sure if you...

MSFS Smooth shading only parts of an object

Found this in the mcx options and it reads like this setting is what i was looking for and it does exactly what auto smooth does in blender. however I am not sure about what value its using, in blender its a value between 0 and 180 degrees to determine at what angle edges are smooth shaded here...

MSFS Smooth shading only parts of an object

Thanks for your answer and for contributing that amazing tool! Since mcx can only apply either smooth or flat shading do you know if the shading settings created in 3d modelling programs (i use blender and sketchup) are stored in the exported file (i usually use .3ds or .dae) and the info is...

MSFS Smooth shading only parts of an object

Hi, is it possible to smooth shade only parts of my model, for example I want a cylindric part to be smooth shaded but the hard edges to be flat shaded. In blender i achieve this with auto-smooth where i can just set an angle (usually ~30degrees works fine) but in modelconverterx i have only...

Blender How can i use only one tile of a tileable texture in the final texture map instead of baking the whole uv

I remember that in the past with sketchup and modelconverterx that was how i textured my buildings, i would just apply the tileable/seamless textures in skecthup and modelconverterx created the texture map that only included onetile of the texture pattern while in blender i uv unwrap my meshes...

Is substance painter worth it for scenery design?

Hi, I checked out your website blog and your hohenems scenery and the assets look stunning, wow! Did you achieve this with default materials in substance? Or do you create your own/download presets?

Is substance painter worth it for scenery design?

I am trying to learn substannce painter and I am just starting to understand the basics. However it seems like there are only tutorials for assets such as a wood box, a medieval house or some scifi spaceship. After watching these kind of tutorials and then loading my unwrapped terminal 3d model...

    MSFS Scenery design ?

I would love to start porting over my x-plane sceneries right now but i am afraid i will have to wait for some good souls to do some kind of video tutorial series to do that. I just don't understand how people get from the minimalistic sdk documentation the information they need to create a...

How can I combine a .tif + .tfw file to GeoTiff to make it useable in WED?

I downloaded some Orthophotos for an airport I am working on right now, using the USGS earth explorer as my source. I do now have a .tif file and a .tfw file. When I Import the .tif file in wed it isn't aligned correctly so i assume it isnt georeferenced. As far as I understand the tfw file...

Whats the best way of making the gaps for a tiled concrete texture in photoshop?

I need to create a tiled concrete taxiway texture and my problem is i just cant get the gaps look right. if i just use a black line there isnt any deepness and it just looks wrong. in combination with a normal map it doesnt look too bad rendered in the sim but i have noticed that other...
