• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Why does the Ground Poly Wizard change my material settings?

Sorry Arno, not sure I understand what you're saying there. Do you mean if I pick P3D for the output of the GPW, I can get both specular reflection and Z-bias layering working fine in FSX? I guess I can try that and check myself, but I can't find the SDK for v2 in the P3D website, only v3, v4...

FSX Why does the Ground Poly Wizard change my material settings?

OK, I found this post by Gary where he explains that the GPW uses a different method to generate the bgl file that supports Z-Bias layering, but does not support specular reflections. Turns out that's exactly what's missing from my materials. He also comments on the fact that the other method of...

FSX Why does the Ground Poly Wizard change my material settings?

Thank you, Arno. It's an FSX mdl, exported to FSX with the GPW. The thing is if I manually place the model using the Object Placement tool, the ground poly looks great from up close, but I get a lot of flickering at a distance. Conversely, if I use the wizard to place the poly, the z-fighting is...

FSX Why does the Ground Poly Wizard change my material settings?

Does anybody know why after generating a bgl with the GP wizard, the material parameters are different, please? The checkboxes I tick in the dialog don't seem to change anything. Thanks

    FSX VDGS Tweaker not working

Nevermind. All I needed to do was to use FS2004's BGLComp instead of FSX's to generate the placement files. It's working now

    FSX VDGS Tweaker not working

Hi everyone. I'm trying to add some safegates to my FSX airports but I can't for the life of me get VDGS Tweaker to work. I created the mdl with a heading of 34, then used MCX to place the model with the same heading, but the model appears freezed in the "WAIT" state in FSX, with some weird...

FSX Textures not completely transparent during the day

    Thanks, Thorsten. I'll try that

FSX Textures not completely transparent during the day

In the unlikely case that anybody cares at all (I'm guessing everyone is focused on MSFS by now), assignining the same black texture with black alpha to the specular mode in blender's FS Toolset did the trick.

FSX Textures not completely transparent during the day

I managed to fix the issue by setting the specular color to pure black ( 0; 0; 0 ) in MCX, but it would be nice if I could skip that step and have Blender export the mdl file with that specular color already set to black. I can't seem to find the option in the FSX toolset though. Does anybody...

FSX Textures not completely transparent during the day

Hi everyone. I'm designing a model for my taxiway lights, and it looks decent at night, but during the day the textures are not 100% transparent. See attached pictures. I also included a zip file with the dds textures I'm using for the light splashes. The day texture is simply a black square...

FSX What's this ground texture overlay that covers the entire world?

Thanks, Richer. I'll look for it there.

FSX What's this ground texture overlay that covers the entire world?

My FSX install is like 10 years old, so I have no idea what I might have done in the past that put this texture that looks like gravel in my sim. It's literally everywhere, doesn't matter if the terrain is grass, sand, tarmac, concrete, etc. Any ideas, please? I tried deactivating every scenery...

FSX Weird artifacts in the VC after modding the mdl file

Nevermind, I found the offending element in the tree! It's the one containing the models for the yokes, windows, tiller and rudder pedals, and I can live without those, but I'll try to narrow it down a bit more. Man, for a minute I thought I'd wasted my time here. Phew!

FSX Weird artifacts in the VC after modding the mdl file

I don't. The artifacts follow the viewpoint. At some point they go away when I move the viewpoint far ahead the cockpit in FSX, but only while looking in the opposite direction of the VC. It's like something breaks the rendering of the VC. If I fire up FSX and change windows to something else...

FSX Weird artifacts in the VC after modding the mdl file

I just posted a thread a few days ago about adding landing/taxi lights to the FSX maddog. That went pretty well, but I have a bigger problem now. When I export the VC mdl with MCX, I get intermitent artifacts in the cockpit, as shown in the picture. Any ideas on how to solve or prevent this...

FSX Attaching n4gix's awesome lights to an aircraft model as taxi/landing lights

Success! I finally got it working. Thanks again for your help, Tom!

FSX Attaching n4gix's awesome lights to an aircraft model as taxi/landing lights

Oh my god, I'm dumb. It's right there in the SDK documentation. Embarrassing 😩

FSX Attaching n4gix's awesome lights to an aircraft model as taxi/landing lights

Thanks, Tom. Is there a reference somewhere for the code definitions of the different variables available in the <code> section, please? By control I mean one of those you can set in FSUIPC with the ipc library like for example: ipc.control(69642, 16777216)
