• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 I'm having Difficulty with the ORM texture

I have the solution but not the answer. Aside from not fully understanding the O R M Comp or realizing the need for 32 bit textures ( which I now understand better thanks to everyone here) even after learning that, nothing I did would work consistently. Here's what I finally noticed. In my...

MSFS20 I'm having Difficulty with the ORM texture

I did all of these steps and nothing changed. I decided to uninstall and then reinstall the Export addons for Blender 3.6 again and 4.2. Next I redid all the steps above and the O R M texture now shows in both Blender versions. The only problem I have now is I get these warnings when I...

MSFS20 I'm having Difficulty with the ORM texture

I applied the comp texture you sent and it still has no effect on the model. This is the same example file I uploaded. The model is still all matte.

MSFS20 I'm having Difficulty with the ORM texture

I've attached an example blend file with the texture maps plus a map showing "What parts of this image should be shiny/smooth metal and what parts should be rough/matte paint?" Also attached the grey scale channels.

MSFS20 I'm having Difficulty with the ORM texture

I've attached the O R M I created. This way we can determine or eliminate this as the culprit. I appreciate all your responses. Thank you.

MSFS20 I'm having Difficulty with the ORM texture

MaMu, I have been using 4.2 with Ronh's exporter. So I reinstalled 3.6.4 and Asobo plugin 1.3.3, loaded the file, made sure everything was in place and there is no difference. WLPilot I think I put together a decent O R M but as a test I tried some stock MSFS textures on my project to check...

MSFS20 I'm having Difficulty with the ORM texture

Thanks for responding rhumbaflappy. Setting roughness and metallic to 1 only creates a mat finish over the whole surface.

MSFS20 I'm having Difficulty with the ORM texture

I have been trying to apply an Occlusion, Roughness, Metal texture to my project with 0 success. I have tried every texture I can come up with, including some stock MSFS comp textures. No effect. They don't show up in Blender or the Simulator and the texture map doesn't save to the texture...

    Excellent! Thanks again.

    MSFS 2020 Triangle limitations

Thank you. Is there a limit to the number of verts per texture map as in FSX?

    MSFS 2020 Triangle limitations

Hi all; I've decided to move on from FSX to FS 2020 for my plane projects. The 2020 SDK recommendations for Triangles is 200k for small, 300k for medium ( Small Passenger Jet) up to 1,000,000 for Jumbo jet. Here's my question. Not that I'm anywhere near this on the fighter plane I'm building...

    Blender UV Map export issue.

Ok. There must be a limit to the number of faces that can be mapped to one texture. In one of my attempts to export I had deleted all parts from the scene accept the Wings, Guns and ports. All textured and mapped. They exported fine. So I went back to the full scene and started playing around...

    Blender UV Map export issue.

I will add that I have tried both mapping the left wing guns and ports and then mirroring them to the right wing and applying the mirror as well as mirroring the geometry first and then mapping, with the same result. I have even deleted the parts and started from scratch, going back to an...

    Blender UV Map export issue.

The wings, gun ports and guns are separate parts. Mirrored and mapped separately. I have also tried doing them as a joined part and got the same results. Here I have exported the model to FSX with a material but no map coordinates applied to the Guns and Ports. Next I prepare to apply map...

    Blender UV Map export issue.

It doesn't recognize the modifier after it's Mapped. So how do I make it recognize it? It's recognizing it with all the other mapped and mirrored parts.

    Blender UV Map export issue.

Yes. The modifier is applied as well as the scale and rotation. I also mirrored the part without UV mapping and it exported without issue. It will not export after being mapped.

    Blender UV Map export issue.

I'm attempting to add ports and guns to my P-51. In my first attempt I extruded the ports from the wing and since the wing already had a material assigned I tried to import the Plane into FSX (standard procedure to check shading ) and received A python traceback error. I thought it might have to...

    Texture / material export issues

You are correct that sharp edge lines happen during import. However I applied the ones in the pic above cause I want those edges to be sharp. It didn't work. I tried your suggestion to smooth the appropriate polys in edit mode but that was ignored on export as well. Ultimately what worked was...

    Texture / material export issues

After more testing it seems that the smoothing data is just being ignored.

    Texture / material export issues

I have converted the polys to quads so yes, but there are some triangles left. I have also tried isolating the faces.
