I too do the same in FSX (photoreal BGLs and individual scenery area folders containing scenery and texture subfolders into the scenery folder inside Addon Scenery folder.
I now have my addon sceneries now all working correctly EXCEPT the first addon scenery I installed which is...
I wonder why (there is no Addon Scenery folder in a newly installed P3D v4)
All this started after I downloaded some scenery and the instruction for installing are as follows (after which I 'googled' "how to install P3D scenery" and seemed to be getting nowhere fast especially after reading...
My normal Windows login probably has adminstrator rights (I can't remember what I did during setup years ago when I installed W7 64). I assume it (login) does as I often read having to do things with 'adminstrator rights' and have never used right mouse click/select 'run as...
Yes MS Office is a Word Processor (not a flight simulator) BUT I just can't get my "head around" having to 'manually' edit configuration file(s) to add something (scenery) to P3D when you don't have to with FSX or XPlane. Doesn't make sense especially for a company wanting to get...
Ok but I think that is rediculous (need to edit configuration files to add scenery). If that is what needs to be done then Lockheed Martin should have included an (installtion) application to do that for the user (IMHO). No it's not your fault but that sort of thing should be transparent to the...
Yes I did see something about editing XML files but thought that there must have been an easier method even though I have no worries doing such things (I used to be a computer programmer even creating executables using 'assembler' aka machine code).
Thanks for the advice on Lorby.
Btw here is...
Just before I returned to my thread I found a way. I created separate folders for each scenery so now have the following folder layout
Scenery area A
Scenery area B
I have just installed P3D v4 and have downloaded some scenery from the P3D section (so I assume that it should work),
The first scenery is a remake of YSSY (Sydney Australia) and when I started up P3D and selected YSSY it didn'y look much different from the scenery I saw before I installed the...
Yes I had incorrectly assumed that you were "well versed" in the use of GIMP. Sorry about that.
I did test LZW compression but that was when I was attempting to 'compile' with a 1-bit TIFF (water mask) file which I have earlier suggested was not compatible with RESAMPLE. It...
I did what you suggested and it worked HOWEVER the resulting file size of the WATER mask file was no different from the one I created when I just converted the layer to 256 grayscale.
I take in what you said that by converting to a 1-bit black and white image initially and then...
No need to spend time. I just thought that you would have the answer "off the top of your head" as you often seem to have.
Looking at the posts you referred to (url) I quickly saw the following -
Resample accepts a limited number of image formats.
I will continue on with that thread...
Hello again Gary,
I have been tidying up my files and remembered you stating the following-
I had previously employed your suggestion (successfully) to use 256 gray scale TIFF files for the BLEND masks to save file space and decided to create 1-bit Black & White only TIFF files for my WATER...
Looking at my ADE scenery project there is no scenery boundary at or near that point (I have a large Land Class polygon which extends either way for quite some distance).
What I have either at that point or extremely close are two adjoining Airport Background Flatten polys. They have...
I suspect that my scenery area has either a very low density or none at all as before I created my scenery there was nothing at all in the area except a airport/single runway a few miles away and a couple of roads. No texture other than conifer trees.
Thanks for the advice on...
I posted this question in another forum which has gone unanswered so maybe it should have been posted here.
I would like to add vehicular traffic to some scenery I am creating and I have no idea how to do thsi apart from adding suitable vector lines in scenery.
I have created AI aircraft...
Have you tried creating any scenery with those texture polys using Airport Design Editor to see if that creates the same problem?
Maybe an FSX file is playing up.
Gary I'm sure will have some good ideas to look at.
From your last post it would appear that SBX crashes after you select "BGL compile". If that is correct I would firstly check FSX SETTINGS to ensure that they are all set up correctly.
I would then perhaps consider reinstalling SBX (after you backup all your projects) in case SCASM...
There is a small amount of documentation on this in the tutorial Terrain_Design_For_Fsx by Luis Féliz-Tirado but nothing about the following -
How to allocate a vehicle to use
Are there any 'timetables' to create (so that vehicles will move at certain times)
What 'rate' (% Road Vehicles in FSX...
Well contrary to what I initially put in this post (I am editing it) the method of creating a transparent layer and then 'painting' with a suitable yellow color for night lighting effects seems to work.
What I did which seems to work is as follows -
1) Create a new (transparent) layer...
