• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX 20,000ft above sea level?

I want to make an airbase in the sky at 20,000ft. first off, is this even possible? will in suffer problems? Will aircraft struggle to land at this height? As you can probably tell I'm new to this. How long would a runway have to be, for example for an a380? Also where am i supposed to move the ILS feathers to? Do i stick them on the end of the runway or where i would like the plane to touch down? I'm not bothered if i can't do it, i just thought it would be a challenge. Any help is much appreciated.

...Are you planning on making it along a mountain or some sort of terrain or are you going to make a high altitude flatten that will stick out like a sore thumb?

Can i not just place the airport at this height without there being land in the way? (To give the affect that it is floating)

I think that will result in all sorts of problems. I would not expect it to work. You might get a runway at that height but what about taxiways, parking ,aprons objects etc etc.

Is there any special reason you want a floating airport - after all it is not very realistic!

Finally if you are new to airport design it might be a good idea to test your skills on a small airport that is on the ground first.....

Graphically I don't think it will work either. From my experience trying things similar to this (Maybe someone will correct me on this) Any 3D objects under the airport and other things will be drawn in front of it as if it were see though.
