FSX 3D Landing Lights

#1
From original thread, which locate here
The only way to make 3d lights ("Lotus L-39" style) is to use animated bones to control the size/position of the "light polygons."

This technique was explicated at Freeflight Design about four or five months ago, as you've noted.
Could anyone repost it at fsdeveloper.com, please.
The Freeflight Design doesn't work, again... :banghead:
Much thanks!

I control the position of the light triangles (i.e. retractable lights) by linking them to the 3D landing light parts (just regular parts that use either landing light (automatic) or water rudder (manual) animations for their movement. If there are no 3D parts (AI aircraft, etc.) I use a small cube and link to that.

I don't change the scale, though.

Thank you tgibson. Understood )

A Gmax file speaks more than a thousand words, so here's my current simplified take on the lights:

If you want to reverse engineer an example for the lights as they were intended by Jon, use my Do328 source file (3ds Max only):

Heretic, I saw you amasing model, primarily it's very interesting, and thank you for sharing it with us!
But, animation is really complicated - each boon flying from the entire screen ))) For now I decided to do my model without 3D light. Thank of God prototype it allows.
