• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA 3DS MAX is not copying animation tags when using copy.

When i copy a complex or even a simple part i want the animation tags from the FSX Animation Manager to keep all of the tags to the parts that are tagged.

So far i have to merge the part to another scene then merge back to my scene to keep the tags.
Why does this work and not simply copying a part? If there is not solution for copying use this method i mentioned as it works. But you do have to alter the name of the part for any part that is animated. This is quick an easy compared to re adding animation tags.

The reason this is important is because if you have a complex gauge like a pilot ADI and you want to copy it for the Copilot ADI and then change a few tags to the copilot xml codes you do not want to start from scratch as this would take a long time. So it's not often i need to do this but I would like to know if there is a fix for this.

What about simply re-tagging the part in Animation Manager?

That is the point of my thread. I have complex grouped parts that have way too many tags and this would be a lot of work compared to just re-naming parts that have animations.

Since i do have to merge to another scene i make a storage scene for complex grouped parts that get re-used for other aircraft. So for example when i exported the pilots Sperry ADI-85A i saved it and after merging it back to my working scene and re naming and changing a few tags so it becomes the copilot ADI i merge that back to my saved storage scene. This way in the future i have both ADI's ready to go.

Changing a few tags is much easier since the pilots tags is right next to the copilots tags. So i do not have to search for each tag.

i am shocked that merging keeps the tags bit copying a part does not!o_O Arg~

unfortunately animation tagging can not copying along with polygon copy, except everything in model properties, even model properties entry in some case can rising an issue if just copy-paste.

Are you using tag groups in your modeldef.xml?
These take a bit of time to set up, but make things much easier once in 3ds Max.

I use tag groups only for common tags like lights or prop animation, doors ect.... But not for everything.

Anyways like i said if there is no solution then the one i mentioned for complex parts like a ADI works great. It's easier to rename the animated parts by adding 1 more letter than to re-tag all the parts.

How about export - import?
never try make double model, but importing from another max file, the animation tag still work

This is what i do now as i explained in the original post. But this also means you have to rename each animated part. I simply add another letter to the end of the name and this is much faster than re tagging.
