• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hey guys,

I was just about to start on the VC for my 737 Classic series after a evening of tweaking and i was wondering about something with regards to the virtual cockpit.

I have some basic bitmaps in the VC from when i was creating my external model and i was wondering do i have to do anything else in the VC, regarding textures and gauges or i can do the rest now in Microsoft C++ and Photoshop?

James

Hey James,

If you do not want to have any details in the VC, you can actually just leave it out or make a basic shell in there for the sake of windows and having a 3D shell inside. No switches or gauges or anything is needed.

Hey James,

Ok, I think I may have misunderstood your question.

As you probably know, animations of objects in FSX VC's are run by the compilers animation code, parts code that is in FSX XML code, different from FS9.

With that, what ever you use for 2D gauges, be it XML or C++, is up to you. But for model 'animation', you are stuck with FSX XML part code.

As for your textures, I do not believe I understand.

Just venturing here on what 'might' be advice. Making a VC is like making a plane. Its an entire project. You are building the inside. The inside 'structure' or mesh (animated parts) will use the FSX XML and what you paint on it for gauges (such as gauge materials/polygons/etc) will be both XML and C++.

That probably didnt help, but hope you get the answers you are looking for.

Hi,

I understand now, thanks :), for the gauges i will have to script write them as what ever appears will be XML, correct? As to the VC, you were saying its a new 'shell', so if i wanted to animate switches then i would have to make them in gmax, as this is the programme i use for modelling?

Thanks
James

Yes. If you are 'creating' from scratch, a VC, you would make it in a 3D design program like Gmax.

'Gauges' (instrumentation) is both done in XML and C++. But the 'structure' (objects like inner shell and animated switches objects) are done on a 3D design program. I highly recommend Gmax as it has the compiler built in.

ok and i was to just make a 2D panel i just need a XML programme and a programme such as FS Panel Studio?
