• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

We (@Dave_W & I) need some users to test this Model (Text_Box) within P3D v5.3.

The model is using the Clear Coat Map (testing a new version of the Blender2P3D/FSX exporter). Only the "Front" and "Back" faces of the Box use the Clear Coat map, but the "Back" face is not using the Clear Coat's normal map. Only the "Front" face is.

If you would please take screenshots of your findings within the Sim. We would greatly appreciate it!

Added a placement XML (will need to be edited of MDL location on your system to be compiled. The location can also be edited if you wish before compiling) and added an Emissive texture to the Test_Box.

** Note: You will NOT be able to use MCX to view and resave it. Currently, MCX does not have a slot for Clear Coat **

As stated above, "Added a placement XML (will need to be edited of MDL location on your system to be compiled. The location can also be edited if you wish before compiling) and added the Emissive texture to the Test_Box."

Did you see the clear coat and the reflection appearance, along with the clear coat normal map?

I believe, I also changed the '"Top" face to be clear coated with normal map. None, are at full strength for the clear coat or smoothness either. I have never seen leather very shiny, unless it's faux leather. 😉 Like plastic.

Note: Cows were NOT harmed in the making of this "Test_box".

Hi Doug. Cannot see any difference between front and back. Attached is another jpg with the front side on the left and back side on the right.
They look like ordinary textures to me.
To be clear, I am using P3D V5.3 HF3. I placed your cube model into an object library using Library Manger and then used SimDirector to place, scale (and for the third jpg) duplicate and rotate the duplicated box so that the two faces are side by side for comparison. I cannot detect any reflexion.

Thanks, John!

They look somewhat glossy to me, but can't tell from the "straight-on" screenshot.

I might need to adjust the Clear Coat strength to be full, along with the smoothness for the "Test_Box". Stay tuned! and Thanks again.

Hi Doug. Please a further screen shot - at an angle in the evening. One can now see a difference between front (looks brighter) on the left compared to the back on the right.
Not really into what you are trying to do but it might be more revealing if the Clear Coat Map was applied to a plane or vehicle.
