• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Adding GA parkings to default airports

Is it possible to add GA parkings to default airports? The particular airport I'm thinking about is ESSL, not handcrafted but looking great anyway. However, north of the runway we have the aero club and unfortunately they didn't add any parkings there. It's understandable, but I thought I'd add some myself.

Have u managed to figure out how to create a completly new airport? I want to create sollefteå and port it form xplane over, but cannot seem to figure out how to make a completly new airport. Thank u

Nope, but I haven't looked into that either since I'm only interested in adding a few parking spots at my local aero club.

I’d also like to know how to add GA parking but to much simpler bush strips...I’m a simple man.

This is my first time really doing anything like this so I just figured out last night how to get all of my scenery compiled and into the sim. Felt like an accomplishment lol. Next step is polygons and hopefully adding parking spots when I get home from work later

It’ll be a bit until I can properly help out! I feel like I’m the one in need of help though lol.

I have work for another 6 hours and then some birthday plans so I might be on later tonight. (USA-West Coast) But I’d love to help where I can, just know I’m coming into this completely blind with no modding experience like this so I’m learning too.

Please let me know your findings regarding parkings. It would be nice if it was as easy as adding the coordinates in an XML

I do not think it is currently possible to do this other than by creating a new airport to replace the default one. This is something that ASOBO are aware of and will hopefully fix soon. However if, for example, you have an updated version for the airport for say FSX or perhaps P3D and can open it in ADE or another tool that generates XML then you can use the XML output as the source for a replacement to the default airport. We are working on making this process part of an updated version of ADE for FS2020 but it is not ready yet. We have also asked Asobo about providing some sort of access to default (base) airports so that can be used to be updated with things like parking

To be accurate nearly all work done to update airports in FSX/P3D is carried out by loading in a copy of the existing airport, modifying it and loading it. Things like the delete flags and loading order ensure that your airport changes are seen. We never edit the actual base files but rather make a copy which effectively excludes the base and replaces it with your version.

Thank you for sharing this info! I do not have any add-on scenery for this particular airport so I guess I just have to wait and hope someone can create one

Do you have FSX or FSX:SE?
I have FSX but haven't been using it for a while. I did made some scenery stuff back in those days, a small local airfield with a grass strip for instance. I don't even know where I have the files for that anymore though

If I recall correctly I made the buildings and other objects and then a contact of mine on Facebook helped me create the actual scenery package. This was several years ago, but I think I've come across your software at some point.

Those few objects that I made for our local airfield took quite some time. I went out there and took a bunch of photos and measurements and then I tried to get it as accurate as possible. The result was rather lame to be honest, but a fun little project. However, that made me realize how time consuming this kind of work is, especially if you need to learn everything while you're doing it. As a half time single parent of three little bastards it would take me a couple of years to create the ESSL airport . That's why I was thinking about just adding some parking spots to the existing scenery.

Thanks very much for posting this. When you are happy with it I would like to sticky the link for others to see it as well

I can send you the XML for the FSX version of the airport you want to edit if you confirm the ICAO

OK - attached is the xml source for ESSL in FSX. It contains everything including objects and so on. You may want to keep the original safe and edit a copy. I would expect FS2020 to be able to build this but there might be issues with runway surfaces and so on Anyway it may be of interest. I will run it though my current dev build tomorrow and see what comes up
