• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 ADE 1.75 places PAPIs higher over terrain

I wanted to edit EBLG so that the parallel runways (23L and 23R) with the same ILS frequency (109.35) didn't clash and prevent any ILS reception. The only thing I did was edit the ILS frequency, then compile, then install the bgl as addon scenery (using the addon.xml method LM require). This caused two problems.

1. I was unable to change the ILS freq for 23R. Whatever it did the resulting bgl file didn't change the frequency. I then found 23L could be changed and I changed it to 110.35. The only significant difference I could see is that 23R has backcourse enabled, 23L does not.

2. Having sorted the ILS issue, I then noticed the PAPIs were floating about 20 ft above terrain. I found an old thread here reporting this problem. http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/runway-light-and-papi-in-the-air.432547/ It was not answered but it stated the problem only exists if you have FTX Vector installed. Sure enough if I delete FTX Vector the PAPIs aren't offset vertically.

Obviously I don't want to lose FTX Vector for the sake of one airport ILS, so has anyone seen this problem and can it be overcome?

Bump - can someone help with this please? I don't have FTX Vector so can't replicate or test

I doubt it can be changed by ADE; perhaps FSX Vector has the ability to change this. It might even change an FSX cfg file when installed and that needs to be changed back?

Hi Tom,

Thanks, that gave me the clue how to fix this. FTX Vector has a configuration tool (which I hadn't noticed). FTX Vector includes elevation corrections for all airports but you can manually disable them with the config tool. Disabling this adjustment for EBLG raises the airfield elevation back up to the default value (662') compared to 615' as changed by FTX Vector. As a result the PAPIs are now where they should be relative to the runway. I guess ADE uses the unadjusted scenery elevation in its calculations. So the main problem I had is resolved.

One question remains though. Why was I not able to change the ILS frequency for runway 23R? I was able to edit it but the compiled BGL didn't change the frequency in either P3D or FSX.

Edit: It seems the problem was only with the P3D map. When I changed runway 23R ILS to 110.35 the map still showed the frequency as 109.35. However in the sim the frequency was 110.35. Confusing but at least it worked in practice.

Sometimes FS reads the information from the wrong (default) files, this is not uncommon.
