• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I am sure y'all have good backup tools that you use regularly. We are moving our installation method to copying an update into an existing ADE installation. This does mean that if the update goes wrong then the existing installation is likely to be compromised. This small utility will take a zip archive backup of any folder in your computer - its not specific to ADE but I made it so that it can be used before updating an existing installation. Of course if you have a better method and can backup the installation before updating then please use that.

The program will store multiple backups for multiple folders. It could be used to archive older version of ADE which could be recovered if needed. Future updates to ADE will specifically advise on backing up an installation before updating it. There are a few notes with the program as to how to use it but it is pretty much self explanatory. I will try and tidy it up a bit. I am aware that archive and backup are used interchangeably and that needs sorting out.

This is a beta program so please test it on some non critical folder first ;)

I'm not sure you should bother. For years, against all your advice to the contrary, I've unzipped the update and dumped it on top of the existing installation.
Only once has there been an 'Oh bu**er' moment that's necesitated me doing the exactly the same thing but with the previous release.

yep. Well it's written. As they say. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

no, I am making my get out of jail card. If some user screws up and fails to make a backup then I have covered my rear end and can call them careless

A handy little tool Jon. I can see me using it for all sorts of stuff. Might wait until it's out of beta though :)
