• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE remembering deleted flattens

I created some flattens so I could experiment with slopes to see how it works in ADE and to try to figure out how to make series of triangle polys for an elevated hill. I deleted the flattens but when I reopen the scenery, it still shows the raised area on the airport. I cleared the scenery cache but the raised area is still there. Help?

Did you recompile after deleting the flattens?

Yes, I did. I think what happened is that ADE was having trouble with my polys and failing to create the CVX BGL. Just a guess. Is there a tutorial or some guidance as to how to create elevated/dropped polys for terrain? I'm trying to make this terminal and, as you can see, the airport sits in a small hill, has a retaining wall and, also, a loading dock that goes about 5 feet down below the ramp area. I may be able to work around the hill using 3D objects in Blender but that loading dock....

The issue to be aware of is the option not to delete a CVX file if there are no terrain elements in the project file. In earlier versions ADE would delete the CVX file if there were no terrain elements but this was a problem for people modifying an airport (usually made by someone else) from the airport bgl file. In this case they don't want any CVX files removed.

You should have received a warning if you have a CVX file with no terrain elements present and be asked if you want it deleted. The option is in the Compile dialog > More Options

It is greyed out in this example but you can see the option for Keep Terrain (CVX) File. If you opted for Yes when asked then this will be checked. You may be able to uncheck it.

The brute force alternative is just delete any _CVX file that is created for the airport. It will be named the same as the airport file with _CVX in it

Okay, thank you. I did receive this warning after I removed all the polys. I didn't know to delete the old .CVX file from the scenery directory. But, I then added some polys in another area near the airport and it did not create a .CVX file then...no error, no warning. Does the .CVX file created by ADE override the stock flatten? Also, any tutorial or anything about creating a series of triangles? With the loading dock, the sides would have to be very steep and there are other areas where a gentler slope would be needed.

You have to exclude the stock flatten in ADE and then it will override the stock flatten

Agree with the former, it is all explained.
And it would not be a good idea to put in a model either. it would not change with the seasons!

I found out how to exclude the flatten by creating a poly and setting it to exclude flatten.
