ADE taxi/runway lights are being hidden by ground polys

I've run into a little issue that I hope has an easy resolution. I am working on an airport that has mostly concrete and asphalt (no grass infield). Ground polys were made using the GP editor. But, after I postioned and checked the ground polys, I notice at night that any taxiway and runway lights that overlap with a ground poly don't show (like they are covered up). Is there a fix or workaround to make lights show up clearly?

The only ones I know of:

1. Make small holes in your polygons for the lights to shine through.
2. Make small dots in the alpha channel of the texture to make the area transparent so the lights shine through.
3. Make the entire texture semi-transparent so the lights shine through (some), using a gray alpha channel.
4. Use separate effects for the lights, placed above the ground.
5. Use 3D lights with illumination polygons above the ground.

Anyone else?

I found the Lightstoo library and it looks like a nice option.

Floda, how does the fx_navgreh.fx file apply to this issue? How do you make it work?

Lastly, what do I do about the ADE VASI and PAPI lights that are covered by polygons in GP editor? Punching a hole into the polygon seems like a easy solution, but is this possible with GP editor?

Hi,

No, not that I know of. I would just stop the GP just before the PAPI (etc.) and then restart it right after.

The other choice would be to move the PAPI further out from the runway, avoiding the GP polys along the edge.

ADE taxi

Hi !! This is how I made it. First right click in ADE/Add/Effect/Effect name and
left click OK. Drag the effect on top of the the GP taxi line where you want your green/white/red/ dot to show. I think it is easier than punching holes.

And if you want blue edge lights, you can copy the navgreh effect, rename it, and edit the two lines in each Particle Attributes section:

Color Start=0, 20, 10, 1
Color End=0, 30, 20, 0


to change them from green to blue (the numbers are red, green blue, brightness).

For example, here is one I quickly edited - the color numbers may need to be changed to match the default blue lights (you must restart FS every time you edit an effect):

It's very useful, but how I can show this effect only on night?

I'v tried to do taxiway lights with fx but the light is on also in the day.

Sorry, fellas. I've been off radar for a few weeks. I appreciate everyone's advice. I was wondering how the added effect is depicted in ADE. I didn't apprecite it in floda's last screenshot. Also, does a navgreh file need to be created for each individual color?

Thank you Tom. So, do I have to change each Particle attributes section individually by trial and error.In other words can I just take the changes I add to section ParticleAttributes1 and apply those same numbers to sections 2 and 3?

Has someone already made these changes for blue, yellow, red, and white lights, and would they be willing to share those files?
