• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 AI aircraft disappear at parking upon departure time

Hi. I have another odd issue with an airport I've made. I have made FPs using AI helicopters to fly to/from multiple airports.

At this particular airport, 06AL, the helicopters spawn in their parking spaces, but at departure time they just disappear. The airport has a runway, runway path, runway starts, taxi paths, and hold shorts. Helis arrive at this airport and taxi to parking. The helis depart fine from other airports I've made just like this one.

Another issue: all the runways except the one connected via paths to parking are set for NO takeoffs or landings, however, AI land on the furthest runway anyway.

I cannot figure out what in the world is wrong. I've attached the ADE files. Can anyone help?

The problem is that FS doesn't care if you have set a non-parallel runway as closed for landings and takeoffs, ATC will use it anyway. The only time closing for landing and takeoffs work is for *parallel* runways.

The runways are all parallel - same headings.

I'm just baffled as to why the AI won't depart.

You've ensured that there is an unbroken taxi link path from parking to runway and that all runway entrances are gated by properly configured hold short nodes?

Yes. I even redrew everything again just to be sure I got it all right.

I'm using standard hold short no draw points and the red circle encompasses the full width of the runway so they are close enough.

AI land at the airport and taxi to their parking spaces.

Several of the airports I've made in this scenery, all "heliports" within 20 miles of each other, have this same problem. Some work fine.

I don't know what's going on.

Hello Dave,

I have tested your AFCAD (06AL_ADEP4_DM.bgl).

Also with me the AI-Heli does not start, it simply disappears.
But after a few tests I managed to start the AI-Heli.

First I sorted out the mess of your runway designation.

But this did not bring the hoped for success yet.

In the next step I removed all unused runways.
Now also the AI-Heli starts.

In further tests I found out that at least the two adjacent runways next to the used runway must be removed, so that the AI-Heli starts.

You should check this for your other non-functioning heliports as well.

My conclusion...
I personally would only use a runway with a width of 0 (thus invisible) for AI traffic.
The runways themselves can be represented by ground polys or photoground.

Fantastic! Thanks so much for figuring this out.

I did actually use aprons and 1ft width runways originally, but didn't have the flightplans done yet. I changed to full runways because I wanted all of them to have edge lights and flashing end lights.
