• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Airbus A350 XWB

Very nice work. Pretty cool to see what Blender can do.

Please keep into account that I'm in no way an expert within Blender... So I guess in the hands of someone with experience (and knowledge) with Blender things can turn out a lot better..
Thanks though!

Progress is slow.. but atleast there's progress ;)

The front Torque (atleast all that would technically be called that) is done... time for the steering assembly...

I'm thinking of test exporting soon so I can verify it works in FSX... ;)

Right, that's what I mean. Keep this kind of detail, but reduce the poly count ;)

For example, your upper part of the torsion link could be reduced to something like this:

Very rough trial, can be cleaned up too

I see what you mean... however I don't feel like replacing it right now... I'll see if I do it someother time ;)
So I've got that done (with a footnote that I might need to remodel it)

Now comes a troublesome zone however... the Steering Assembly, downlock Spring, an main fitting....

Above is as illustrated by Airbus...

Hmmm... Well I'll see if I can shave of some then...
Although I'm not sure what to make and what not...

Edit: I also just noticed the belly of the aircraft has deformed (probably happened when rearranging the wings) I'll also have to fix that ;)

Not nitpicking, just asking here. Isn't it better to do the tireprofiles with textures? Because doing it like this will increase the polycount where it isn't necessary.

However these high poly tires can be used as a source to bake the textures an even normal maps.

That wouldn't be nitpicking at all.. after all I mean to some day distribute this product (be it as freeware or payware) so I should always keep the "users" in account (somewhat). However I personally think this will look better, I still have to see about performance but I think that when it's baked it will go easy....

Regarding the tyre treads, I have a pretty easy trick.

Long story cut short, my PC is slow and texture baking takes almost half day...

So this is the idea I came up with: Simply apply a Bevel/emboss operation under Layer styles in Photoshop, once you painted the treads to your texture.

So this cost me 2 minutes and about a hundred less polygon than modelling the individual parts.

Anyway, keep up the good work, It's good to see someone building an A350 finally :D

First off, thanks! :)

The idea you mention obviously is a good one... and even though I've got no founded arguments for a fully modeled tire, but it somehow just feels better.... let me see what influance it has no the expercience before I judge...

That's a good call, if you find out the performance is bad you can begin decreasing the polycount. So make it as detailed as possible now and we'll see from there!

Exectly! I'll probably test is sometime soon...

Does anyone know if there by any chance is a way to simply giva all objects a texture just to export and test?
