• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

And more exclude problems...

Hi folks.

I've searched this one to death and can't find anyone who has reported a similar problem (although I know I'm not the only person who dislikes removing autogen trees now!) so hopefully someone here might have a clue.

I've placed a runway next to a lake, which predictably has autogen trees growing through it, so I have been trying to develop an exclude polygon to remove them using the SDK, the explanation on the Avsim forums, SBuilderX, bln2shp and shp2vec.

The exclude now compiles and I have no autogen on the runway. Unfortunately, the entire lake also vanishes every time I activate the scenery, becoming a dustbowl instead. The polygon is about 300m (very approximately - I've not measured) from the lake shore and a small distance higher.

I suspect I'm missing something blatantly obvious. Before I start posting the contents of all the files, has anyone come across something similar before, or know what I'm doing wrong?

Cheers,

Ian P.

Ian,

Did you use 6c0c6528-5cf1-483a-a586-2c905cf2757e (ExcludeAG) as the GUID for your exclude area? There are other GUID's that will also exclude the trees, but they also effect the class map (background textures).

Jim

Your exclusion polygon is intersecting the shoreline. Use the GUIDs {359C73E8-06BE-4FB2-ABCB-EC942F7761D0} in your .dbf file and {1B6A15BB-05FB-4401-A8D1-BB520E84904C} in the .xml.

Hi gents.

The exclude file is nowhere near the water - that was my first thought, so I tried moving it about 800m inland (to the far end of the runway), changing it from just an Exclude AG {6c0c6528-5cf1-483a-a586-2c905cf2757e} to a Flatten and Exclude AG {18580a63-fc8f-4a02-a622-8a1e073e627b}. The ground raised exactly where I had put the polygon and there were no trees there, but the lake, almost a kilometre away, was still missing.

G-H-D: I was using a copy of the SDK's "FLX7824.xml", which includes both the AirportBounds GUID you suggest putting in the .dbf file and the Texture GUID you suggest putting in the xml. I'll try putting the AirportBounds GUID into the xml instead of the ones I've been using tomorrow.

And after taking a while to try and find this post following its move, can I just say that the only thing I'm not trying to play with is the mesh itself? :D

Cheers,

Ian P.

Ian,

Can you post the coordinates of your lake?

George

ps. I've just thought. Did you use the -ADDTOCELLS switch in Shp2Vec? If not, you would have replaced everything in the QMID11 area including the lake.

Sorted.

Thanks George,

It was the switch. I knew about it from the thread at Avsim, but hadn't been putting it on. I knew it would be something stupid I was doing wrong.

Right. Now I just have to get the polygon back to where I want it rather than a kilometre inland and up in the air somewhere...

Thanks again.

Ian P.
