• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

Animation disappearing

Hi Arno

I've been trying to animate a jetway with see through windows, for the glass I used a gmax material with the opacity set at 30% and attached this to the rest of the jetway, I export, use CAT, and test the animation with the nav1 freq, the jetway disappears before the animation starts.

If I then go back to gmax and reset the opacity to 100% and export, use cat, the animation works ok.

Could I have found a bug?

A known bug I think. CAT has some problems with transparent materials. But istn't there a new version of CAT out now? May you try this.

I am not even sure if it is a bug in CAT only. When you make an animation of a transparant object MakeMDL often also gives trouble (so without using CAT, the animation already does not work as intended).

The best advice I can give here is not to use transparant materials. If you want transparancy use a texure instead.

I have tried the last version of CAT.
I made PAR "Tesla" and want to have animation only for working runway by wind direction. Actually four of them for crossed runways.
1-st question: how I should provide parameters for direction 280-11*? :confused:
2-nd question or bug: after CAT processing static parts got wrong transformation. They oriented 90* around X axis. :scratchch
The last: no any animation at all I can see after processing. Clear model was animated properly. :(

P.S. I used BGLC_9 to get new mdl and BGLCOMP for final compilation of several objects.

The wind direction variable goes from 0 to 32767 for 0 to 360 degrees if I remember correct. But there is a bug in FS so you will need to have multiple objects on screen that use this variable before it will actually work (the famous windsock problem).

Could this be the same problem as described earlier in this thread? Are you using transparant material for example?

What are you using to trigger the animation? Or have you only added a condition for the wind direction?

I'll play with degrees but in general if I need overlap 360* to W & E what the minimum and maximum should be.
Or in another words can I make OR condition. For instance 280-360 OR 0-11.
I have for PARs in scenery which should work based on wind direction.

2. Yes, I have transparent material for the fence around platform with opacity 99% to avoid shadows. Should I put it as differens FS object? Before CAT it was fine.

3. Probably you answered in 1-st item. I was tried just normal degrees not 0-32K. I added parameters on first screen. I do not want any revers animation as gates. I want constant animation but for active runway only. The only thing which I guessed is the wind direction.

No, you can not cross zero in one condition. Then you need to do two checks. One for 280 to 360 and another for 0 to 11 for example.

Yes, I think that is the problem then. You can always to if it works when you put the opacity back to 100% or put that part in a different file.

OK, yes, that is probably the value indeed. Or you don't have enough active on the screen, so that the wind condition does not work.
 
So,
I went little bit forward. All geometry became normal when I split radar on two parts - static and animated. It is headache actually but seems to be there is no choice.

Then I get animated at least something. I recalculated all parameters based on 0-32K values not 0-360. As result I've got a mess.
One unit working more or less fine (I'll check minimum and maximum degrees for wind direction). Second one works only in part of range (which overlap 360*). Two others doesn't work at all. They located by pairs approximately at middle of the RWY length. Oriented B2B. So usually I see two of them in one time and very seldom just one.

When I changed wind direction thru menu during the flight radars still animated as they were. I expected one to stop and another one to start.

As I understood if I'll use trigger it will make just one turn from 1-st frame till last one. When condition for trigger will not true again (win changed) it will go back to the 1-st frame. My goal is constant animation in appropriate wind direction. Is it possible thru CAT?

If yes could you provide examples of CAT screens?

Hi,

If you only used an animation condition it should work as you want. That will show the endless animation when the condition is true, or else a static display of the 1st frame.

I guess you are having the same trouble that sometimes also happen with windsocks. There is a thread about these socks on the forum, have you read that? Might give you some ideas.
