• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Aprons and Taxiways

I am sure that this has been asked somewhere, I created a set of hangers in Gmax and I thought to keep everything together I would create the Apron and the hanger base as well. Everything in Gmax was fine, textures worked etc. When I exported to FS9, although the base/apron was there it flickered constantly and let the underlying FS9 texture show through. I have read many forum articles that seem to indicate that various people have created these in Gmax, how do they do it and avoid this happening.

My method entailed creating a spline, extruding it very very slightly then texturing

For Fs2002 you needed to add a LayerCall to them, but in the Fs2004 gamepack that is no longer possible. From the tests I have done it seems that given them a zbias in GMax works fine.

But the fact that these problems are there indicate in my point of view that GMax is not really meant for these kind of polygons, so I would advise you to make ground polygons with GMax only if you for example need a floor in the hangar. For bigger pieces like aprons and taxiways it is better to use for example AFCAD.

Arno, How do I go about making them zbias? the fact is that the Apron element is not that big at the actual airfield, to call it an Apron is a bit OTT. It is actually a concrete area that just about gets 3 planes on it :)

zbias is a prefix you can give to the material name. So just add zbias_ in front of the material name and then it should work.
