• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi

I have a question concerning payware projects and the nova texture sets by Rafael Garcia Sanchez.

Question: are these textures considered public domain Since Rafael Garcia Sanchez is not active in FS any longer and no longer supports the textures

I have a project, I am doing and would like to use these textures but, I am not sure if the copy right is still valid. I have tried to E-mail Rafael but his web page is gone and all the support emails are gone as well. just need some advice on if it is ok to use the textures or how, I can obtain Rafael's permission to use the textures

Unless specified in his readme, I would not include them. Especially not in a payware project.

Hi,

I don't think they are public domain, but they are still available for download and many users have them. So you could use them in your project I think.

You would have to check the read me to see if you can include them in your download or if you need to ask your users to download the set themselves.

Here's the readme.txt from the nova gold textures:

NOVA CUSTOM GOLD TEXTURES for FS2000 and CFS2 Release 1
By Rafael Garcia Sanchez
July 2001

Important:

1.- This set of textures contains some specific textures for the Nova
addon 2, as clock textures.
2.- It also contains some very common textures used in scenery desing, as
hangars, finger gates and terminals, based on real digital pictures.

============================== PLEASE READ CAREFULLY ==========================

3.- For scenery developpers, please DO NOT INCLUDE in your scenery design package
ANY NOVA texture, but indicate in your documentation to d/l them. This way
you will reduce the size of you scenery package and missused of these
textures from non profesional designers, as what it happened in the past
with the VOD textures.
4.- NOVA textures, if included in your package, must be included in its original
file as released, partial release of Nova textures is NOT allowed.

================================================================================
5.- Reproduction of Nova textures in any type of media and CD for commercial
purposes is not allowed, unless you have registered commercial license.
6.- NOVA textures can not be used in any commercial scenery, unles you have a
commercial registration license.

7.- This rules applies to all texture files released as up to date as follows:
NovaTxt1.ZIP -> The first complet set of textures.
NovaTx1.ZIP and NovaTx2.ZIP -> The first complete set of textures in 2 files.
NovaTxt2.ZIP -> The first set of textures for the Docking and odometer system
NovaTxt3.ZIP -> The new set of textures for the Docking and odometer system. This file replaces NovaTxt2.ZIP, with some new added textures.
NovaGt1.ZIP -> The current set of textures

Installation:

1.- Unzip the file NovaGt1.ZIP in a valid FS2000 Texture folder

From the above, it is clear a commercial release cannot contain these textures, as no commercial license is currently available. As freeware, the textures must be included in their entirety as per note #4 ( as a NOVA download link is no longer supported ). I would also include the readme.txt.

And, no, they are not public domain.
