• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Assign animation to play on a specific date

Hi there guys. Currently creating an airport and wondering whether there is a way to make an animation play on a specific date. Thanks

Yes. If you make it as a simobject you can create an animation that runs at a particular time. For example, Windsocks are simobjects and use the wind direction and wind speed parameters to animate. You should be able to use the zulu year, zulu month of year, zulu day of month, zulu time variables to start the animation.

That is amazing news, thank you for your help! Do you have any pointers as per where to look for a sample file or such? Been looking through SDK samples and wasn't able to find one. I'm trying to make a light that turns on for Xmas, thanks again!

Well, WindsockSample will get you started on making a SimObject. You'd need to rewrite the animation code. I think you should only need a visibility condition which isn't even an animation. See here on how to write visibility conditions: https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/heres-how-to-write-you-own-modelbehavior-code.451037/

One other thing you can look into is using effects files and editing the xml placement file. In FSX there was a parameter you could enter into the placement file to control when an effect would appear. This was how they did New Years Eve fireworks. I don't know if MSFS still supports that parameter but it might be worth trying to start with.

Have a look at this post:

Post #7 shows the xml code for a placement. effectParams is used to set the time the effect appears. Like I said, I don't know if MSFS supports this parameter anymore.
