• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Attempting to fix afcad errors on payware scenery removes ground photo

There is one developer I purchased 2 sceneries from and the afcads are poor. Bugs such as not a single parking spot connected. Hold short nodes not added or too far from the runway and many more basic errors. When I try to fix and compile this airport and load P3D4.4 the ground photo is missing. The developer has not responded to emails and a forum post. What can I do to get this airport compiling correctly? I added the scenery folder to the libraries and it has no missing effects or object warnings when compiling. Thanks.

With the ground photo I guess you mean the photo real satellite image?
Then there is something else wrong as the satellite image has nothing to do with ADE or AFX or whatever AFCAD program.
You do not add the scenery folder to the libraries. You import the 'AFCAD'.bgl in ADE (then back up the original one, if not you have double airports), modify it to your liking and compile again into the scenery folder of your payware airport.

If the "ground photo" is a ground polygon it may have been lost when imported into ADE?

The term "afcad," refers to proprietary software and some potential contributors may not understand you are referring to an airport .bgl file. This file is distinct from the ground polygon .bgl file, which contains the ground photo.

There is one very important reason to never edit an airport .bgl and instead, work from the .ad4 file, or whatever software format was used to generate the airport .bgl, because that file, the airport .bgl, works in conjunction with several other files that control objects, elevations and other aspects of an overall airport scenery. These are combined within the ADE interface and the .ad4 file, which makes it easy to confuse their relative and distinct functions.

You may edit parking and hold shorts to your specific liking and replace that exact file, the airport .bgl, with no consequence to the ground polygon. Other "basic errors," may not be as basic as they seem.

Not sure if I understand you correct.
When I rework and AFD, I open this one from the scenery developer and change the things I want. I don't start from scratch with the default P3D file.

Not a good idea unless you do not have the ade file from the developer! One bgl from the scenery developer contains only so much, as there can e.g. also be a xxx.cvx.bgl, a xxx.gp.bgl, a xxx.obj.bgl and an xxx.ALT.bgl (maybe in the scenery\world\scenery?) and with a different name.

If you want to edit the developer's airport there's little you can do other than open the airport from the BGL file. Then (if needed) you can use Tools/Import Raw Data to get some of the default airport's features back (again, if needed). But after that you should save your edited airport as an AD4 file and always open that when you need to re-edit the airport.

I had this problem again. I changed parking spots at Aerosoft ENGM (not many scenery developers care about cargo, all the spots did not align on the yellow line and the radius is much too small for heavy aircraft) the latest version for P3D4 and my ground photo is gone! The ground is all concrete.

Did you create the ground polygon using this AD4 file, and did you make sure the _GP BGL file was copied to an active scenery folder?

I did not touch any files in the Aerosoft Oslo scenery folder. should I have loaded another bgl through ADE as I edit the afcad file?

You cannot load ground polygons into ADE via the BGL file. In earlier sims the ground polygon would probably still be there. I don't know about P3D.

Is there nothing I can do to then, if the ground photo disappears that means I cannot edit and save the BGL file anymore?

If the ground polygon is indeed part of the airport file I do not know of a way to save it.
