• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Auto platform issues

Has anyone recently had issues with the auto platform tool? I have been trying to get it to do the material based platform generation. However when I select the material and click run it does nothing. However when I don't select any material it runs but only makes platforms in spots where there are "holes". As an example I have been toying with the old FS9 Alphasim Enterprise as well as some other carriers... When I select a material nothing happens but when I do not select a material it fills in the gaps where the moving elevator are... Any ideas? Is this a material issue or something else? Thanks

Hi,

I haven't used that function recently, so let me double check it's not broken.

But it might also be something specific in the model that messes up the normals.

Hey Arno, If you want me to I can send you a copy of the model? Due to size I may have to PM you a google drive link, Thanks,

That would help. I was away the last days, so I did not check it yet.

Hi,

Which version of MCX are you using? I just tried it in the development release with the model you send me and the platforms are created on the entire deck.

Hi Arno,

So I am actually using and have tried two different versions of MCX both with the same (non-working) result... I still use a stable release version of 1.6.0.0 looks like it's dated Aug 1, 23 and the dev version I have says 1.7.0.0 and dated Sept 11, 24... The reason I use two different versions is every so often I find the dev version will do goofy things such as adding a random transformation when I go to attach an effect or part to another part with an animation... For example attaching a landing light to a nose gear and I might find once I move it up the tree the effect position has been moved somewhere entirely different from where it was before I dragged it on to the nose gear part, and I have to start all over again... Where I don't get that issue in the stable version... Regardless I am getting the auto platform problem in both MCX versions... For what it is worth I also asked Shaggy22 (DR) on the MAIW forums to try for me as well and he said the auto platform is not working for him either... I can ask him what version of MCX he is using... Thanks!

Hey Arno,

Quick update and for what it is worth... I forgot I had an old copy of 1.4.0.0 sitting on my drive... I tried it in 1.4.0.0 and it works.... So not sure what is different between 1.4.0.0 and 1.6.0.0 and beyond....????

Also spoke with Shaggy22 / DR just now and he has said he is using 1.7.0.0 as well, and auto-platforming does not work for him either...

That's weird, I tried in the latest development release (which is version 1.7) and all the horizontal polygons got a platform.

Maybe some other settings is involved as well. Did you change any settings like disable optimize or so?

Ok that seems to have solved it; I went in and found "disable optimize" under "object model settings" was set to "true"... Set that to "false" and that fixed it... Thanks!

Glad to hear that fixed it. In general disable optimize should be on false, only when debugging issues o sometimes set it to true.

Indeed, the one thing I realized... and it this may just have to be one of those settings I stay on top of when I am working with this program... Is with the optimize enabled, it has a tendency to merge common parts based on materials into one when I am using the merge objects feature... Which I don't like... For example I was just now adding some hangar deck aircraft to a carrier I am working on, and when I added another aircraft such as another Tomcat, it merged the newly added Tomcat with any Tomcats I already had in the object; which meant doing my transformations to move the aircraft into their desired positions suddenly became impossible until I disabled optimize again, and re-loaded / re-merged the objects I needed...

You might be able to turn off CollapseModelParts, and leave optimize on?
