• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum

Autogen builings with exactly the same height

Hi,

I 've made a small photo scenery. Now I am about to fill it with autogen objects. Trees are really a fun to create. But....

Now I have a big problem:
In my hometown there are a lot rowhouses, which have different lenghts and ground shapes (row, shape like a "L", a "T" and so on) but exactly equal heights and equal looks (same windows, same walls, same roof, same colour). But in FSX annotator I am not able to create such houses, which have diffenent ground shapes but same looks.

Maybe some of you can give me a hint?

Cheers,
FA

Something that might work is using the polyline buildings with the extrusions.xml file (see Luis Féliz-Tirado's tutorial on Avsim).

The polyline buildings aren't the easiest to use, but with a few attempts you can draw some shapes to match your photo. The polyline building is really intended to do buildings with courtyards, but you can draw a small area near the center and then extend it out to match an 'L' or other shape. I did a few like that on my FSX Salem, Oregon scenery. The polyline does allow you to narrow down the type of building height and textures. They may not be quite the same, but there will be a lot less variation than you see with the row houses.

Hi KJB,

that did the trick. Thanks for this advice! :) It still isn't perfect, but now it looks way better than before and good enough, if I don't fly below 100 metres. ;)

Another question, you might know the answer of: Is it possible to build flatroof polyline buildings which are taller than 5 floors?

Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
FA
