Basics [Newbie]

Gentleman.i know here i am amongst the giants in Multimedia and design areas as well scenery programming etc. But as a future scenery designer and painter i am at a loss where to start!!most of the tutorials i have attempted really jump from one topic to another leaving me shaking my head and i am sure they are well thought out tutorials for the basically converted but where do i go for kindy, surely there is a tutorial for the seriously uneducated as my self,i have done Adobe CS flash and powerpoint a little multi Media stuff, but i am an oldie and perhaps a pointer, somewhere out of your hair, regards Patrick.

Hi Patrick,

The first question is probably what you would like to design? Do you want to make extra 3D objects, enhance the layout of an airport or maybe fix how the ground looks (adding coastlines, lakes, etc, etc).

Each of these three activities requires other tools. So to give you a push in the correct direction, we first need to know what you would like to design.

I would firstly like to enhance the Gates at YSSY for our little airline which would involve buildings and a large work hanger then move on to painting aircraft as well, would this be too much initially,i am not the sharpest tool in the shed but am patient and methodical.regards Patrick. :)

OK, for 3D objects GMax is the best tool to learn I think. It already comes with your FS CDs. After you have installed it you must download the SDK from MS as well (see this [thread=117]thread[/thread] for more details).

When you are starting to learn GMax you can probably best start with reading a few chapters of the GMax tutorial itself. It does not deal with FS, but teaches you the interface, etc. After that MS has a nice tutorial on how to build a house, this should get you on the way of making an object for FS.

On the NL2000 site there is also a serie of articles about building your own house in GMax. It also explains the installation of GMax and the gamepack in details, so that might be useful as well. Please note that this is work in progress, more parts should still follow.

A last site I should not forget to mention is the Windowlight site, it contains a lot of nice articles on working with GMax. These have helped me a lot when I started with GMax.
